MPC One Firmware Update

Overview

In this guide, we will show you how to update the firmware on your Akai MPC One. These updates are released periodically and typically include new features, bug fixes, and optimization to the system’s internal software. There are a few different ways you can update the firmware, so follow the sections below to get started.

  1. Check the firmware version

Check the firmware version

Before we update the firmware, it’s good practice to check which firmware version your MPC One is currently running. Before performing an update, check which firmware version you’re currently on and compare it to the latest listed on the MPC One download page. All you need to do is press the Menu button then tap the Cog icon. The firmware version will be listed there.

Update the firmware using a USB thumb drive

When updating the firmware on your MPC One using a USB thumb drive, you must make sure that you have at least 1GB of space. The thumb drive also needs to be formatted to exFAT. If this is your first time formatting an external drive, be sure to visit our instructions for Mac and PC.

  1. Go to the Akai MPC One download page, and download the USB Firmware Update file. Downloading the incorrect one may result in a failed update.
  2. Connect your USB thumb drive to your computer, go to your Downloads folder, then copy and paste the mpc-*.*.*-update file to your thumb drive.
  3. Connect the thumb drive to your MPC One, turn on your MPC One, and press the MENU button.
  4. Press the Gear icon on the display to enter the Preferences menu.
  5. Hold the SHIFT button and tap Update, then follow the on-screen prompts.
    • The firmware update will take approximately a minute, and will then restart. Do not turn the unit off or disconnect the USB thumb drive while updating.
  6. Follow the steps in the Check firmware version section to make sure.

Update the firmware using your computer

If you don’t have a USB thumb drive available, another option is to update the firmware using your computer. You will need to download firmware update software, but besides that, the process is very simple.

  1. Go to the Akai MPC One download page, and download the Firmware Update file for your OS. Downloading the incorrect one may result in a failed update.
  2. Connect the MPC One to your computer, then turn it on.
  3. Press the MENU button. hold the SHIFT button and tap Update, then follow the on-screen prompts.
  4. Once the MPC One reboots, go to your Downloads folder, double-click the MPC firmware updater software, and click Update MPC
    • If you receive a message stating it’s not plugged in, just click Back, and click Update MPC again.
