And we want to help you find it quickly, so we're here to help you along your path. Let's go wireless!
New to wireless? Our Guitar Wireless System Setup Guide has tips to get you up and running and help minimize interference.
Why Go Wireless?
The perfect guitar wireless system will let you cut the cord between your instrument and your amp in the most reliable way. It will give you superb audio clarity and amazing ease of use. The greatest thing about these systems is the convenience. The only thing you have to watch out for is that the device’s batteries are fully charged between gigs.
Which Guitar Wireless System Is Best?
Analog vs. digital systems
Guitar wireless systems have their differences. Generally, they're split into two main categories: analog and digital. Analog guitar wireless systems are practical, reliable, and accessible. Digital guitar systems are smart, resistant to interference, and tonally transparent, for fuss-free wireless in any performance environment.
Venue type
Before purchasing such a system, consider the size of the venues you play at, the room you need on your pedalboard, and the frequency of gigs you play at the same venue. If you mainly gig in smaller venues, a basic guitar wireless system will suffice. Digital systems are better for those who play in big venues and often switch audio environments, such as you would during an international tour.
Latency
The time it takes a strummed chord to travel from your wireless guitar transmitter to your receiver is known as latency — sometimes called delay or lag. Every wireless guitar system introduces latency to varying degrees. A good latency rating for today's wireless system clocks in at under 10ms, with premium systems reducing latency to a nearly imperceptible 2–5ms.
Cable Emulation Translates Tone Like a Wireless Guitar Cable!
Superstar guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Paul Gilbert, and Steve Vai have all shown loyalty to particular lengths of guitar cables at key points in their careers. Ever wonder why? There's more to it than mere convenience. Guitar cables introduce capacitance, which affects the high-end response of a signal chain. By fine-tuning their cables, these artists could accurately predict how their tone would translate on any stage in the world.
Wireless guitar systems, by contrast, don't introduce capacitance. This means the twangy zip of your 'Screamer drive that used to be subdued by cables now comes across in full effect. Many players consider this a benefit, but others may miss the gentle high-end roll-off imparted by physical cables.
Fortunately, many wireless systems today — including the BOSS WL-20, Fender Telepath, and Line 6 Relay G10SII — feature switchable onboard cable emulation circuits. This lets players reclaim the natural response of varying lengths of guitar cables while still enjoying the full benefits of wireless.
