How to Set Up a DAW Controller in Studio One
IMPORTANT! This article applies to PreSonus Studio One software. If you are looking for Fender Studio Pro DAW controller content, please visit our guide “How to Connect a DAW Controller to Fender Studio Pro“.
If you own a DAW controller and use Studio One, you must configure the settings so you can control it. That means you must select the controller’s protocol and port settings within Studio One.
If you’re unsure how to change your MIDI device’s protocol (mode), check its user’s manual for more information. Also, be sure to download your DAW controller’s latest driver beforehand!
If you are setting up a DAW controller for the first time, we recommend reading Getting Started with DAW Controllers first, then following the instructions below.
- Open the Studio One menu and select Options….
- Click the External Devices menu and choose Add….
- Select the controller identity or protocol for your device:
- Rename the device.
- Select your MIDI device’s port for both Recieve From and Send To drop-down menus.
- Click OK.
- (Optional) Select the MIDI device and click Placement…. Click and drag each device to group them, then click Close.
New Control Surface (MIDI Learn)
When configuring a control surface, selecting New Control Surface is a generic MIDI identity that features MIDI Learn. To control the DAW, you’ll manually assign features to the controller. Right-click an eligible software setting and select MIDI Learn. The next controller adjusted (fader, encoder, etc.,) will now control that setting.
