I hear feedback or an echo when I try to record in Sound Forge 8.0.
Within Sound Forge, go to Options–>Preferences–>Audio. Uncheck the box that says “Monitor audio input while recording” and then click Apply and OK.
Note that the next time you bring up the Record window you will have to turn on the Monitor checkbox again in order to see activity in the meters.
