How do I use the Stormdrum 2 MIDI performances in Digital Performer?
To use the Stormdrum 2 Midi Performances in Digital Performer, do the following:
(NOTE: To preview the SD2 Midi Performances, there is a folder containing MP3 snippets of each loop on your SD2 disc #1)
– Open a new Digital Performer project file. From your Project menu select ‘Add Track’, choose ‘Instrument Track’, then select ‘East West: Play (Stereo)’.
– From the Play ‘browser’ window select a MIDI performance ‘multi’ from the Stormdrum 2 ‘Midi Perf Multis’ menu (located along with all of the SD2 instruments). Adjust your tempo from the Conductor Track or tempo slider. The original tempo of the MIDI performance is at the end of the loop name; for instance, the “1000 Ships 7 4 159” multi was created at 159 bpm tempo. You do not need to adjust time signature.
– Navigate to your SD2 Library folder on your hard drive. Within this folder you will see an ‘SD2 Midi Performances’ folder, with a midi file that corresponds to each multi you see in Stormdrum 2’s browser. Drag this file to the left window (the window with your track names/assignments/etc.) of your ‘Tracks’ window and drop it, select yes to ‘merge’, and it will automatically expand to the number of midi tracks that the multi contains with the track names assigned to each.
– You will need to assign these tracks to the midi port/channel of the PLAY plugin respectively. The time signature of the loop will automatically assign the project time signature correctly (you can delete this from your Conductor Track if you wish to use a different time signature). Midi loops are not locked into any one tempo so you are free to experiment with this to suit your project’s needs.
