I am having trouble installing Pro Tools on a PC with Windows XP. No matter what I do, I get “Component File…” errors. What can I do??

This is a solution suggested by Digidesign:

Component transfer errors are caused by problems with install shield, files being moved to the wrong place, or corruption in the registry. Start by going to your Program Files folder and deleting the Digidesign folder. You should also go to Program Files/Common Files and delete the Digidesign folder there. If the installation fails again, the next step would be to delete any files that were installed during the previous attempted install and then use Reg Cleaner to remove any reference to Pro Tools LE. You can download this freeware application here:

If this does not work you will need to back up any unique files on your system, format the system drive, and reinstall Windows.
