Why does my digi001 Pro Tools for Windows say “Service Profile is Damaged” when I click on help?

This is actually not a Pro Tools error, but an error caused by Adobe Acrobat Reader not being installed. The help files are .pdf files (Adobe Acrobat files – similar to a Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect document) and need to have Acrobat installed to view them. Here are two things to try:

1. Double-click on My Computer, go to C drive, Program Files, Digidesign, Document Reader. Run the AR401eng.exe (or similar file depending on the version). Pick the defaults and keep hitting Next. Then, simply run Pro Tools and your help file will work properly.

2. If you cannot find this folder and file, you can either download the reader at www.adobe.com and click on Get Acrobat or you can insert your Pro Tools CD, go to it, go to Pro Tools Installer, and run Setup. Choose Modify and hit next. Put a checkmark in the Acrobat Reader box, and hit next. This will add the file you need to complete step 1.

Once you complete step 1, everything should work fine. This is a good program to have on because most manuals and many bits of information on the internet are in this format.
