Make sure that your hard drives are in the NTFS file system, and that drive compression is not enabled. To check this, right-click on a hard drive and choose Properties. The file system will be on the top of the General page, and the drive compression option will be at the bottom.
If the file system is FAT32, then you will need to convert it to NTFS: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/convertfat.mspx
If drive compression is enabled, uncheck the box and reboot the PC.
