AEA’s founder, Wes Dooley, was trained by renowned RCA engineers in the 1970s and spent decades repairing some of the world’s most coveted ribbon microphones. Each AEA microphone represents decades of expertise, meticulous attention to detail, and relentless drive for perfection.

From acoustic guitars to drums to violins, AEA mics offer incredible versatility across a range of instruments. Based on iconic ribbon mic designs that captured legendary recordings for generations, AEA mics bring classic sound to the modern age.

In addition to classic designs, AEA has created innovative mics from scratch, like the R88 Series. The R88 is a stereo ribbon microphone that captures the sound and imagery of a room more closely than any other studio microphone. From solo performances to full bands, the R88 is the ultimate “one-mic” recording tool for achieving a sonically complex, true-to-life sound.

AEA has developed mics specifically for modern performers who want exceptional flexibility and the highest level of audio quality. Active, nearfield, and supercardioid, the KU5A combines the warmth and clarity of classic ribbon mics with the directionality and noise isolation of the best dynamic mics on the market. From the studio to the stage, the KU5A is built to deliver.

AEA microphones are proudly manufactured in the USA at AEA’s facility in Pasadena, California. They use local parts from local suppliers, and each component is hand selected and tested to meet the highest specifications and level of quality. AEA started as a small family business, and they still operate like one today.

AEA continues to bridge the gap between vintage and modern microphones and dispelling the myth of ribbon fragility. Their mics are consistently performing night after night on marquee tours around the world.
