In the past, hardware samplers loaded all of the samples associated with a specific patch or program. Today, most software samplers have a feature that lets you delete the samples that are not used in a sequence. Native Instruments’ BATTERY 3 is one of these. It has a Purge function that analyses which samples are being used in an arrangement, then removes from RAM any samples not being played. Thus BATTERY 3 can handle huge amounts of samples while exhibiting low RAM usage.
