Choosing the Right Size

Size is an immediate differentiating factor when shopping for a pre-built modular synthesizer. Smaller builds can weigh less than 10 pounds, with dimensions maxing out at about one foot in length and typically half that in width and depth. The next step up falls around the 50-pound weight class, with dimensions roughly two feet by one foot and more than twice the size of smaller models. The largest synthesizers can weigh 100 pounds or more, with standard dimensions of four feet in width and more than a foot in height. To guarantee a proper fit, we recommend measuring your intended space and verifying dimensions before purchase.

Large Systems (30+ Modules)

Higher-end modular synthesizers provide everything needed to produce exceptional sound. Compact Systems (Eurorack-ready)

Smaller modular synthesizers may lack the expansiveness of larger frames, but they still offer complete control within a limited footprint. Compact systems may include step sequencers working in unison with oscillators and multiple filters to facilitate pattern creation and editing. When equipped with MIDI-to-CV converters, the compact size allows easy integration with other synth gear. While the smaller footprint may seem modest, well-designed builds allow installation in standard Eurorack cases.
