This guitar would be great for the person that wants a great acoustic tone but also wants the ability to kick into overdrive.
The first thing I noticed when I opened the case was the beautiful finish. The flamed maple body along with the unique design definitely gave me a “wow” factor right from the start. When I picked it up and started playing, I instantly noticed the sound projection. I was a little skeptical about the tone just looking at it, especially when I saw the design, as the soundhole was in such a unique position with a unique design. Boy was I surprised! With no amplification, the sound rivaled other guitars three times the price! As a matter of fact, I did a duet jam session with a buddy that was playing a standard dreadnought and there were no volume discrepancies between the two at all! Beyond that, the tone was terrific!
The MSC550 is also a very versatile guitar. It comes with 2 types of pickups, a magnetic pickup (for electric guitar tones) and a piezo pickup, for acoustic tones. This is the first acoustic guitar I have heard that faithfully reproduces an electric guitar tone along with a stellar acoustic tone. I really like the fact that you can blend the two tones to make a sound all your own. It can be a very clean, or very gritty and distorted for rock songs. This guitar would be great for the person that wants a great acoustic tone but also wants the ability to kick into overdrive, all in one guitar. I was VERY impressed!
