We’ve seen a few customers experience problems getting the new versions of their Waves plug-ins installed on their PC’s due to some anomalies with the PACE copy protection. Part of the problem is that you need a current version of the PACE driver. You also need to use 11 of fewer characters in the name of your hard drive. If you’ve had trouble getting it going try following these basic steps. They will help get you past the parts that are most likely to trip you up.
Before you start, remember that the drive “Label”/name that you are installing to can NOT be longer than 11 characters. You will get the error, “The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect.” If your drive Label is too long.
Next you need to build your own little Waves install.
1. Get the latest download from the Waves web site.
2. Use WinZip to unzip your install file to it’s own directory.
3. Download the latest PACE driver found at http://www.paceap.com/dldrvr.html
4. Install the PACE driver.
5. Do a search to find the tpkd.sys file in your windows directory.
6. Copy the tpkd.sys to the folder you unzipped your Waves Software to replacing the tpkd.sys file that is there.
7. Run the Waves setup.
8. Run the PACE update again.
9. Reboot before opening a plug, otherwise you may still have some “old” PACE driver files still loaded in memory from the install.
Now you have the challenge/response stuff to deal with, but at least you can get started.
