Waves CLA Vocals Plug-in Reviews

This plugin is a phenomenal piece of software. It can quickly , cleanly and easily help you mix a vocal without all the hassles of many other plug-ins. It is not perfect - it is not a deep level professional software - but it gets the job done and is perfect for the home-studio musician who wants a user-friendly professional mix. I have Nector 3 and use it for harmony and other vocal adjustments but honestly I prefer using CLA to "get things going". It's great. And the price is ridiculous!

Had never heard of this until recently when I saw producer Ryan Tedder talking about this and gave it a try. Really brings vocals to life. A great, relatively inexpensive plugin that is a must, in my opinion.

I am using Studio One v3, mostly for creating backing tracks. Never could quite tweek the On board vocal effects to generate a vocal sound I truly liked (I use EZ Drummer 2 as a drum plug-in for pretty much the same reason). Searching for a simple solution for shaping vocals, I ran across this little gem on the SW website. Reviews were positive, it looked easy to use and I figured... it was worth a try.

I am extremely happy with this product! With it I can quickly create a professional sounding vocal track. I have set up, named and saved a few vocal presets which can be easily accessed from the Waves plug-in desktop. Anytime I create a new song, I simply drag the Waves CLA Vocals plug-in into the track area. Once it loads I select one of my vocal presets, arm the track for recording, and it's ready to go.

If you are looking for a product that can quickly and effectively shape your vocal sound, and you are not a recording studio engineer- look no further!

Was not sure about the product, but it was a surprising plug-in. Easy to use and really helps out a vocal.
I also tried it for jazz guitar licks and it boosted the feel of the licks.

What makes this a great plugin in the speed with which you can get things done. Well, that and who does not want CLA making suggestions about your vocal mix?

CLA is my favorite mixing engineer and I love the vocal sounds he gets with his mixes. So, I figured I would try this plug-in... and I have to say that I love it. I'm not extremely great when it comes to getting great sounding vocals, but this plug-in gives me a place to start and I can always tweak a little from there. Great sounding presets to get outstanding vocals in any mix!

If you want to add clarity to your vocals, get this app. For $... you can"t go wrong. Sounds fantastic, easy to use and loaded directly into my DAW (Reaper). It makes my vocals stand out in the mix, more towards the front. Great product, nice work Waves.

I very much prefer to build my own mixing chains for most things, but there is value in this plugin that I cannot deny.
What I love most about it is the way it gives you the ability to call up a fantastic sounding vocal chain immediately. It sounds pro, inspiring, and definitely gives a singer confidence when laying down vocals.
Even if you ultimately build your own vocal chain for the final mix, there's little harm in having this up and running for tracking, because it really sounds incredible.

If you are strictly a musician recording yourself, and don't care much for the mixing side of things, and just want to get your own music recorded, this (and the other CLA signature stuff) will serve you very well.

This isn't going to make your songs or mixes sound like CLA mixes, but you shouldn't want them to. It's just a very effective tool to help your own sound come alive.

Voice-over recording is my bread and butter. They need to be clean, articulate and uncluttered. This plug-in replaces an entire effects chain in one unit which streamlines my workflow and makes me more productive. It's simple enough that I was able to get usable vocals in under a minute and then with a bit of tweaking I created separate presets for the different kind of projects I work on.

This all in one plugin for vocals is a winner. This is a great one to have in your toolbox. I use it on main vocals, background vocals. ALL vocals. Go easy on the compression slider and you will have a great mix!

I used this plugin with Waves Vocal Rider, Blue Bluebird mic and PreSonus Audiobox 1818 USB interface. My vocal studio is in my basement and comes with all of the pitfalls of no acoustic treatment, concrete, etc. I was able to get some IMPRESSIVE vocal recordings using this setup, and the CLA Vocals plug-in really brought the vocals out in the mix.

It comes with several presets that are great starting points. I ended up tweaking them to my liking, but you could easily just use them out-of-the-box.

I usually used CLA in a track bus, and then routed individual vocal tracks to the bus. I've also experimented with putting the plugin directly on the vocal track, but I found that using it on a bus gave the individual vocal tracks uniformity. It doesn't seem to use a lot of processor power, so it's easy and "cheap" to experiment with.
