Using Aliases in Logic Pro

An alias in Logic is just like an alias in the Mac’s Finder. It contains no actual data, but rather is just a reference back to the original data. Why use an alias? Let’s say you use the same series of notes or a specific riff in many places throughout your song. By using an alias, you don’t eat up valuable storage space. Just as importantly, if you make a change to the original data, the aliases will reflect that change (or even a series of changes) automatically. To create an alias in Logic Pro, just hold down the Shift key while copying a Region. There’s also a command in the MIDI menu: Alias > Make. Aliases are easy to spot as their names are in italics.
