About Charvel Solidbody Guitars
Since its inception in 1974, Charvel has had a long and storied history of being a go-to electric guitar brand for famous rock and heavy metal guitarists, such as Jake E. Lee, Richie Sambora, Satchel, Eddie Van Halen, and many more. Founded by Wayne Charvel after working at Fender, Charvel gained notoriety as a repair shop for out-of-warranty Fender instruments in Azusa, California. Not long after being founded, Charvel began building its own guitars to compete with Chinese guitars modeled after the modified guitars Charvel built for customers. Charvel soon filed for bankruptcy and was sold to another famous guitar builder named Grover Jackson. After Grover acquired Charvel, the brand saw a significant spike in popularity, primarily from the hard rock and metal community. A little-known guitarist by the name of Randy Rhoads had just joined Ozzy Osbourne as his lead guitarist and wanted another guitar to accompany his iconic polka-dotted Flying V. Although the production model of the Randy and Charvel guitar wasn’t popular upon its release, it became a staple and a cult classic among Randy Rhoads fans and spawned the “Rhoads Model” guitars. The “Rhoads Model” success inspired Grover to found Jackson Guitars, which became the parent company of Charvel.
