Vienna Symphonic Library Software Activation Instructions

In this guide, we will show you how to authorize, download, and install your new Vienna Symphonic Library software. Follow the sections below to get started.

1. Create an iLok account
2. Register your software
3. Download and install your VSL software

Create an iLok account

Vienna Symphonic Library software is licensed with iLok. That means to use it, you will need to connect its iLok license to the iLok Cloud or an iLok USB stick. If you don’t already have an iLok account, you’ll need to create one and install the iLok License Manager app. Follow the steps below to get started. If you already have an account, skip these steps and continue to register the software. Learn more about iLok licensing in our iLok Quickstart Guide.

1. Visit iLok’s registration page and complete the registration form. Take note of your User ID and password, as both are case-sensitive.
2. Open the iLok Account Activation email and click on the verification link.
3. Download and install the iLok License Manager.
4. Launch the iLok License Manager app and sign in to your account.
   • Optional: connect an iLok and when prompted, click Yes to register it to your account.

Register your software

IMPORTANT! If you have a VSL account already, The serial number for your Vienna product(s) has been registered to the “MyVSL” user account you provided us. You will receive an email from Sweetwater and Vienna that contains your Activation Code.

If you do not currently have an account created with VSL, create one here so you may register the code you receive from Sweetwater.

Once you’ve created an iLok account, the next step is to register the software you purchased on the website. Once the registration code is entered on the website, the license will be transferred to iLok for you to register via iLok License Manager.

1. Go to your VSL account homepage and click Licenses, located on the left side of the page.
2. Click Link iLok Account field and use your iLok User ID to synchronize accounts.
3. Copy and paste the Serial Number you received from your Sweetwater Sales Engineer into the Serial Number field, then click Register. 
4. Launch iLok License Manager, then follow the steps below that apply to you.
   • iLok USB stick: Click the Available tab, then drag and drop the VSL license into the iLok icon.
   • iLok Cloud (internet access required): Click the File menu and select Open Cloud Session. A new iLok Cloud Session will start with all available cloud-enabled licenses.

Download and install your VSL software

IMPORTANT: If you’re an existing user, you must convert your current eLicenser license to an iLok license as soon as possible!

Once you’ve created an iLok account, the next step is to download and install the Vienna Assistant software, which you’ll use to download and install your new VSL software and delete old eLicenser sample content (to save space.)

1. Go to the Vienna Assistant page.
2. Click the Support menu, then select the Vienna Assistant download link for your computer.
3. Once the download is complete, go to your Downloads folder, launch the installer file and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Launch Vienna Assistant, enter your login credentials and download and install your library.
   • VSL sound libraries are quite large, so they may take quite a bit of time depending on your internet connection.
5. Once the installation is complete, launch your DAW, create a project, then load VSL onto an instrument track.
   • The software will be authorized in the background when your computer is online.
   • When your computer is offline, you must connect the USB eLicenser key for the software to be authorized.
