Roland TD-10, TDW-1, and V-cymbal issues.
We’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about the new Roland V-Drums. Specifically the TD-10 brain and TDW-1 upgrade as they relate to the new V-cymbal control needed to properly address the 3-way triggering of the new CV-15R ride cymbal. The answers to the most popular issues follow:Q: How can I tell if my TDW-1 includes the “V-Cymbal Control” version?A: TDW-1’s shipped since February include the “V-Cymbal Control”. You may not be able to tell from the packaging, but when you first boot up the TD-10, it will say “TDW-1 with V-Cymbal Control” in the display if it is the updated version.Q: I own a TDW-1 I bought last year. Do I need to update it?A: NO. Only if you want to have the 3-way triggering on the new Roland CY-15R Ride cymbal. NO CY-15R – NO NEED! THE V-CYMBALS WILL STILL WORK WITH AN ORIGINAL VERSION TDW-1 (Just like they would work for a TD-8, TD-5, etc.). However, in this state any CY-15R Ride cymbals connected will be dual trigger only.Q: I have an original version TDW-1, just bought some new V-Cymbals, and want the update to get the 3-way triggering on the CY-15R Ride cymbal. How do I get my TDW-1 updated?A: Call Roland Customer Service (323) 890-3700, ext. #2289. They have several methods to minimize or eliminate your TD-10’s down time while the board is out of the module. Some important additional tips:1) After loading the TDW-1 (and using the new V-Cymbals as in a Roland V-Session Set) SET THE TD-10 TO TRIGGER BANK #2! (It defaults to trigger bank #1). To do this:§a) Press “Set Up”§b) Press F1 “Trig”§c) Press F1 “Bank”§d) Use the cursors to highlight the number “1” (if it isn’t highlighted)§e) Turn the alpha dial to bank “2”§f) Exit out2) Taking any version TDW-1 out of a TD-10 will disable the module. You need the TDW-1 in the TD-10 for it to work! Hence the importance of the aforementioned phone number at Roland for speedy turnaround time on upgrades.3) WHEN SETTING UP A V-SESSION SET§a) Install the TDW-1 in the TD-10§b) Place the TDW-1 sticker set on the TD-10 module§c) Follow TIP #1 above to make the 3-way triggering on the CY-15R Ride work properly.
