Recording Over A Write Protected ADAT Tape
Since some of you have asked, there is a way to make an ADAT record over a tape that is write protected. There is a simple way to do this that is much easier than trying to get tape to stick over the missing write protect tab. The procedure, documented by our ADAT tech guru, Greg Bowers, is as follows: “Press SET LOCTATE and RECORD 2 with the tape loaded to override record protect switch on original ADAT software V4.03 and above. “PrOF” will appear to indicate write protect switch is bypassed. On the ADAT-XT press SET LOCATE and INPUT 1 with the tape loaded to do the same. “PRot OFF” will indicate the write protect switch is bypassed. The XT-20 is the same as XT method.” Editors Note: Obviously we are giving potentially dangerous information here so be careful. Usually write protect tabs are broken off for a reason.
