Getting OMS to recognize a USB Mark of the Unicorn interface

We’ve seen a fair number of calls from users of Mark of the Unicorn USB MIDI interfaces who’ve had trouble getting their OMS based systems to recognize them. The problem stems from the fact that current versions of OMS do not have drivers to recognize MOTU USB devices. The solution is to get OMS to use the MOTU FreeMIDI driver. You need to get a copy of FreeMIDI, version 1.43 or higher for this (these are easily downloaded from the MOTU Web site). Delete any old versions of OMS or MIDI in your system. Install the latest version of OMS, but do not set up or configure it. Then install FreeMIDI, but do not set up or configure it. Get your MIDI rig connected how you want it and then launch and set up OMS. OMS will find and use the MOTU driver to access the MOTU USB MIDI interface. Once things are set up and working you can delete the FreeMIDI Extensions from your system.
