MOTU Software Activation Instructions
In this guide, we will show you how to register and activate MOTU software. The process is a little different between Digital Performer and virtual instruments, so make sure to use the corresponding section. Follow each of the sections below to get started.
Register Serial Number or Keycode
In order to access your software, you first need to register with MOTU. New users need to create an account but returning users should use their existing MOTU login. Once registered, the software and its Serial Number/Keycode can be found on your account’s registration page.
- Create an account or log in with your current one.
- Go to your account’s registration page and click +REGISTER A PRODUCT.
- Enter your Serial Number or Keycode, complete the form and click SAVE.
Download and install
Software downloads are found on the MOTU downloads page and your account’s registrations page. Once downloaded, you’ll run the installer file and follow the on-screen instructions. Digital Performer will prompt for its Keycode and while virtual instruments require their iLok license.
Digital Performer
After you install and launch Digital Performer, you’ll be prompted to authorize it by entering its Keycode and your registered email address. After that, all that’s left to do is configure your audio and MIDI devices.
- Go to your account’s registrations page and click the VIEW DETAILS button for your software.
- Click the download compatible with your operating system.
- Open your Downloads folder, double-click the DP .exe or .pkg file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Launch Digital Performer and use your Keycode to complete the prompt.
Virtual instruments
MOTU virtual instrument software uses soundbanks and without them wouldn’t produce sound. They’ll install to your computer’s internal hard drive by default, but you can choose to place them on an external hard drive (see below). Some are standalone plug-ins, while others are libraries that use the UVI Workstation. Use the video below to see the installation process. Once installed, you’ll finish the installation by authorizing your instrument’s iLok license. If you are new to iLok, follow our iLok Setup Guide and come back when you’re finished.
Soundbanks on external storage
Since soundbanks take up storage space, they can be placed on an external drive. If you install them to an external drive, you must create an alias/shortcut in the soundbank’s original location. Learn more on MOTU’s virtual instruments FAQ.
- Go to your account’s registrations page and click the VIEW DETAILS button for your software.
- Click the download(s) compatible with your operating system.
- Open your Downloads folder and watch the video below to install your instrument.
- Launch the iLok License Manager, click the Redeem an Activation Code button and enter your Serial Number/Activation Code.
- Under the Available tab, click and drag your product’s license to a valid iLok location.
- Launch Digital Performer or your DAW of choice.

The estimated required monthly payment shown which excludes taxes and delivery equals the amount financed divided by the number of months in the promo period, rounded up to the next cent. During the last month(s) of the promo period the required monthly payment may be reduced due to this rounding. These payments apply only with the financing offer shown. If you make these payments by the due date each month, you should pay off this amount financed within the promo period, if it is the only balance you are paying off. If you have other balances on your account, this payment will be added to any other minimum monthly payments.
