K2000 SCSI HELP

KURZWEIL K2000 SCSI HELP

Here are some basic guidelines to follow when configuring a SCSI chain:

1. Including a minimum of I foot for intemal cabling of each device in the chain,
the total length of the chain should not exceed IB feet.

2. No single cable length in the chain should exceed 8 feet.

3. The first and last device in the chain must be terminated.

4. If the chain exceeds 1 0 feet, a pass through terminator should be used near
the mid point of the chain.

5. Each device in the chain (including int. hard drives) must have its own unique
SCSI ID. The default K2000 ID is #6. Macintoshes use ID #7 & 0.

6. Theoretically all eight SCSI IDs could be used, however, real world
experience tells us that the true limitation is about 5 devices in the chain.

7. Use only true SCSI cables – high quality, twisted pair, shielded SCSI cable.
Do not use RS432 or other non SCSI cables.

8. lmpedence mismatching between cables from different manufacturers can
cause problems. Avoid this when possible.

9. Make all of your SCSI connections before powering up.

1 0. Authorized service centers will remove termination from the K2000 when
installing an internal drive, set its ID correctly, and terminate the drive.

1 1. When using a Macintosh, power up the K2000 and other devices first.

12. The K2000 file format is a proprietary format; no other device will be able to
read or write a Kurzweil file.

13. The floppy disk format of the K2000 is DOS. The SCSI disk format is close
to DOS, but it is = DOS. In Version 3 instruments, the SCSI format is true
DOS, however disk partitioning is not supported.

14. lt is possible to view, copy, move, name, delete files on a K2000 formatted
floppy disk or removable media hard drive, with a PC or Macintosh running a
DOS mounting utility program such as Access PC.
