Controlling a TSR-8 with a BRC

And our sync question this week comes from Sean. “Can 2 ADATs and a Tascam TSR-8 be controlled by the BRC where the BRC is the master controller and all three machines lock to it? I know the ADATs will lock to the BRC without any trouble and I know the TSR-8 has the capability to be operated from an external source. But how do ya’ hook it up?” The BRC has no capability for directly controlling machines like a TSR-8, or any analog tape machine. Possible alternatives are to find the MMC-8 interface that allowed the TSR-8 to be controlled by MMC, or get a synchronizer for the TSR-8 that will make it chase time code from the BRC. The only other solution is to make the BRC/ADAT system chase the TSR-8. None of these are perfect solutions, but then that’s why not that many people are using analog multi-tracks anymore.
