882 I/O (set to +4 output) audio output clips a Mackie 3208 mixer’s Tape Returns (also set to +4). Noise is audible with system idle.
The Mackie tape returns set to +4 can accept 1.85V max. This translates to about +10dB.A full code sine wave (set to unity gain in S8) played out the 882 I/O set to +4 output is 7.5V. This translates to about +19.7dB.The Mackie 3208 has no input attenuators or pads to compensate for signal strength greater than +10dB at a +4 setting, and this is why clipping occurs.The workarounds would be:1) Place a pad between the 882 I/O and the Mackie.2) Set the switch on the back of the 882 I/O to -10 which has a maximum output level of about 1.95V. The Mackie board can handle this. Although it seems counter-intuitive to set the 882 I/O to -10 and the Mackie to +4, this in fact provides a better level match and prevents audio clipping.
