World Wide Web

Typically shortened to “the Web,” this refers to a sophisticated system of interlinked hypertext documents that may be accessed using the Internet. The Web is accessed by users with a software Web browser, which allows users to view (or hear) text, images, audio, video, and other multimedia on Web pages that are found at Web sites. Navigation between these pages is typically accomplished by using hyperlinks. Web sites may be accessed using Web browsers when the user enters in the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of a specific site or page, which is resolved into an IP (Internet Protocol) address using a global Internet database that is known as the domain name system.
