Abbreviation for Uniform Resource Locator. URL’s describe the location and access method of resources on the Internet. This is the text string you see in the “address” window of your web browser. There is a formatting protocol for them, and it does vary somewhat depending upon what is being accessed, but for the most part there are two major components: something denoting the type of access method being used, and the actual address, which includes the location of the server and (usually) more info that describes more about the information or program being accessed there.
