Roland VS-2400 File System.

Q: “How is the VS-2400 file system structured? For a given project, is there one file per track, with a project header file, for instance?”

A: Each project has its own header file, and each “take” (that is, each individual recording, even if you punch in and punch out on the same track) has its own file. VS-2480 owners can see what this looks like by copying a Project to an external ZIP Drive, then connecting the zip drive up to a Windows PC and seeing how the files and folders are organized. But since the 2400 does not have the SCSI interface, this information is moot (but the results would be the same). And as you’ve probably figured out, when you backup a project from either a VS-2480 or a VS-2400 to a CDR, it writes the data to the CDR in a format that a windows PC can’t open or read. If you want to dump your tracks out of the 2400’s hard drive and get them into the computer, simply use “TRACK EXPORT” under the CD-RW menu. It’s simple and easy – and it works great!
