We’ve had a few customers experience problems getting their MOTU 2408 based system working on certain Dell computers running Windows 2000 or XP. In fact we have confirmed some problems with getting the MOTU PCI-324 card used in all the MOTU systems (except the 828 Firewire interface) to work, but there are solutions. The following comments come from MOTU Technical Support and should solve most problems.
The new Dell Dimension 8100 computers with Windows 2000 or XP may need a BIOS update, available from Dell’s website. If under Win 2000 you run into any problems with the Intel 800 family chipset and the PCI-324 and MIDI, try these updates:
Z0377C05.exe – found on Dell’s support website: www.support.dell.com: “The Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility installs to the target system the Windows* INF files that outline to the operating system how the chipset components will be configured. This is needed for the proper functioning of the following features: – Core PCI and ISAPNP Services – AGP Support – IDE/ATA33/ATA66/ATA100 Storage Support – USB Support – Identification of Intel Chipset Components in Device Manager”
If you are upgrading to XP and are also installing the PCI-324, update your BIOS with this update. It’s recommended for device installs for Win XP:
BD81XPP1.exe – found on Dell’s support website: www.support.dell.com: “This BIOS is intended for users that wish to install Windows XP. See the Dell Windows XP page for further information. The following change has been made to the A09 BIOS to create XP1: If A09 is used with XP, the lack of a driver for the ACPI-based support will cause a ‘yellow bang’ in device manager which cannot be removed.”
