Windows XP (code named Whistler by Microsoft) is the latest (and at the time of this writing not yet released) version of the Windows desktop operating system for the PC. Windows XP is built on the Windows 2000 kernel but brings a new, more personalized look to the desktop that can also make it easier for users to scan or copy in images (such as from a digital camera) and to acquire music files on the Web and transfer them to portable devices.
