The new dbx 376 channel strip is here. The single rack space unit sports a real tube stage (with 200 volts on the plate), a 3-band parametric EQ, compressor, and de-esser. Of course it includes 48v phantom power, digital outputs (with sampling rates up to 96 kHz), and word clock I/O. Plus it even has dithering built in. And all this comes for under $500.

If you use lots of sound effects you should check out FindSounds.com, a database driven website and search engine devoted to locating sounds on line based on criteria you set. Their database is pretty limited at the moment, but it’s an interesting idea that over time could really become a useful resource.
