dbx 231s Dual 31-band Equalizer
dbx 231s Dual 31-band Equalizer Reviews
There's a reason many of today's top live sound professionals turn to dbx for live sound EQs. With dbx's impeccable history of making robust and reliable graphic EQs, they've become a standard in touring rigs and installed PA systems everywhere. The dbx 231s dual-channel 31-band graphic equalizer lives up to the legacy - providing 1/3-octave Constant Q control beyond the audible frequency spectrum. Equipped with a switchable +/-6dB or +/-12dB, the 231s gives you fine control and superb sound quality. And with over 108dB of dynamic range, you know your sound is in good hands when you trust it to the dbx 231s graphic EQ.
Great product with lots of flexibility
As have been all of my previous purchases with Sweetwater Sound, this product is no exception. It works well and has great flexibility in shaping and curtailing any sound reproduction issue(s) and frequency necessities for my studio. Thank you again for your many years of great service, support and great products.
Perfect l like it so far
The EQUALIZER DBX 231s really nice responsive good, and I do love the design…
dbx 231s
I purchased two of these, one for my mains, and one for the monitors. I use them to flatten the curve for FOH and monitors.
My band does our own sound from the stage, using an analog mixer and the 231s are easy to use w/ no menus to scroll through. they meet our needs. My sales engineer, Michael Ramey, was very useful making recommendations to fulfill my needs.
What I Needed
For years I've been mixing my music in a room that's not ideal. I decided to give this a shot at tempering certain frequencies that were confusing my ears and mixes. Absolutely perfect. A true necessity. Coupled with some new monitors, my mixes are finally translating to other systems much easier.
A lemon?
I own a few other pieces of gear by DBX so I was pretty surprised when I first hooked this up. Unfortunately the hiss I had read about in some other reviews was very apparent. Double checked the TRS cables I was running for both input and output but saw no change. Overall it was unaffected by the gain knob, however became worse as I began pulling out certain frequencies on the sliders. Not sure if this was specific to the unit I received but will be switching out to the 1231 in hopes of a quieter unit.
Massive Tone suck
This could be very useful but just running a signal through without any eq changes you can already really hear how much of the tone it kills. With me it's all about tone so I returned it.
The guy who says this is useless...
This is a decent eq.... I'm shaking my head and laughing at the irony that someone from a church is casting blame on the manufacturer for them not knowing how to use an EQ; There are no instructions needed here, this is as simple as a graphic eq gets; If you can handle pushing sliders up and down, and you know the basics like line level vs mic level vs speaker level (boom,) you're good.
It's odd to me that the guy said it was useless (and didn't say why,) then commented on the fact that there were no instructions.... a person not knowing how to use a basic audio tool doesn't make IT useless.
Anyhow, this is a nice, reasonably-priced EQ. Not Neve quality, but not Neve price either.
DBX equalizer
So far so good. My rep Tony always great to deal with.
It's VERY GOOD!
Everything on the pictures and everything in the description is about the product the way it is.
I thought it's a 50/50 opportunity that I get the good one, I have heard that some people have some noise problems with that, so I was a bit nervous. But I bought it and... THERE'S NO NEED TO WORRY!
Solid EQ.
I'd heard these were very clean, and that's definitely the case. With this much control, it's easy to dial out problems (and my tiny, tiny bedroom studio has many) and shape a killer sound. I just used this in conjunction with a Presonus Channel Strip and my Fender P and it was just as good as any sound I ever got out of my Ampeg.
I'm doing all my bass recording straight into my computer through this guy from now on.
Fine performance.
First of all, I checked this unit for noise issues. I connected it to a 100% balanced audio path via the XLR jacks, set the gain to my normal levels, then began manipulating the faders at the +/- 12 dB scale. No hiss, nada. The EQ was perfectly quiet.
My dbx 231s replaced an ancient dual-15-band Samson EQ which obviously wasn't giving me enough control in my desktop system. Thus far, I really like the results.
dbx 231s purchase
I discovered the magic of the Wish List. I put the dbx 231s on the wish list and didn't think anything would come of it. I recall that I also did the same with a dbx stereo compressor, (and though it wasn't wish-listed, a Roland GR-55). Then my fairy godperson, the Sweetwater Wizard, Ryan Murray emails me that these items are on sale as demo units. The price was too good, but, it was true! So I acted immediately and picked up a couple great pieces of gear for a good discount. Now my tunes are clean, slightly compressed into luxurious sonic sumptuousness, and the EQ of Planet Earth is more heavenly than it was. The End.
Fantastic
Awesome!!!
Church Sound Management
Very clean easy to use, cable jacks as needed.
Sounds great
I received the unit promptly...which is not typical here in bush Alaska. I installed it and balanced the church sanctuary in about half an hour. Greatly increased intelligibility and greater gain before feedback. The best $200.00 I ever spent.
DBX 231
It's not an Ashly but it does the job very nicely, especially for the price range. Of the other EQs under $200 it is by far the best.
dbx 231s
I bought this for my monitors and it did exactly what I hoped it would, I was able to get a great deal more volume out the the monitors before feedback (I use it to ring out the monitors). Very good value
Worthless for my church.
User Manual doesn't help at all. If the 231S was a car, The manual would say the wipers clean the window but not how to turn them on; there are headlights (brights and dimmers) but not how to operate them; other features but not how to operate anything. It's probably a great unit, but not if there are ni instructions.
Best Bang For The Buck
Bought this to EQ large monitors in the studio, you can by better, but not any close to this price point.
Hissy
Mine had a lot of hiss in the signal. It did it's job, but there sure was a lot of extra noise.
