dbx AFS2 Advanced Feedback Suppression Processor Reviews

2-channel Feedback Suppressor

Put the dbx AFS2 advanced feedback suppressor in your live sound rig to eliminate feedback without lifting a finger. It sets up fast in any room thanks to the Wizard Setup function, and 24 programmable filters per channel are ready to kill feedback transparently. Live sound engineers at Sweetwater know that even if you're an expert at tuning your sound system, cramped stage conditions or careless performers always have the potential of introducing feedback. Putting the dbx AFS2 feedback suppressor in your system is like getting sonic insurance for your live sound. dbx AFS2 Advanced Feedback Suppression Processor at a Glance:

  • Transparent, precise performance from updated algorithms
  • Eliminates feedback, not your sonic integrity
  • Protect individual mics, groups, or even your full mix

Transparent, precise performance from updated algorithms The dbx AFS2 feedback suppressor boasts dbx's updated Advanced Feedback Suppression algorithm. The AFS2 listens to the incoming signal and can anticipate problem frequencies before feedback even begins. You won't hear it working, and you won't notice any sonic difference with it in your signal chain. Eliminates feedback, not your sonic integrity With 24 filters per channel the dbx AFS2 feedback suppressor is agile enough to fight horrendous feedback in a busy mix, without degrading your overall sound. Each filter can have a bandwidth as narrow as 1/80 of an octave, which means problem frequencies get zapped with incredible precision. Handy presets for Speech, Speech/Music, and Music make it even easier for the AFS2 to anticipate your program material and do its job transparently. Protect individual mics, groups, or even your full mix It's easy to integrate the dbx AFS2 into any live sound rig, whether you want to protect a couple troublesome channels or your entire mix. Connect the AFS2 to individual channel inserts to guarantee those mics won't feed back. Put it on group inserts to protect an entire instrument section. Or connect the AFS2 to your main mix inserts or between your mixer and amplifiers to fight feedback across the entire stage. Whether you're mixing monitors or FOH, you'll be glad you have the dbx AFS2 in your rig. dbx AFS2 Advanced Feedback Suppression Processor Features:

  • Two-channel feedback suppressor
  • Advanced AFS algorithms respond faster and with more transparency than previous generations
  • Sets up fast and easy in any room thanks to the Wizard Setup mode
  • Easy to manage thanks to its clear front panel display and metering
  • Preset modes for Speech, Speech/Music, and Music for optimized performance in any application

Just say no to feedback, with the dbx AFS2!

Just what we needed! Works as advertised, and does the job in a loud room.

By Rick G. from Chattanooga, TN
Music Background: Garage band writer/guitarist/singer, hard rock and metal. Iron Diplomat, Chattanooga Tennessee

We have three different bands, all metal, using our practice space. Two or three stacks and a monster drummer going nonstop made hearing vocals on the monitors almost impossible without getting insane feedback. As you can see from the picture, this dbx AFS2 is using all of the filters available, but the vocals are still coming through clear. This unit is pricier than some of the other ones out there, but for us, worth every dime. No need to even look at the manual. Once it's hooked up, you just hit the wizard button and follow the simple instructions on the screen (e.g. do your basic EQ presents for tone, turn off any gates, and start turning up the volume on your speakers). The AFS2 figures it all out from there without you having to touch it, and the feedback goes away. There's still an upper limit to how high you can crank the speaker/monitor volume, but it gives us all the vocal level we need for our space. If we have to set up somewhere else, the wizard function makes tuning it for the room easy and fast. We have four monitors so had to daisy-chain them in pairs since the unit only has two channels, but that works out fine. Wish I'd found this years ago. As always, Kudos to our Sales Engineer Ryan Murray for excellent support!

Great for Quickly reducing Feedback signatures in varying rooms

By Jay F. from Columbia, SC

If you are constantly seeing up in different rooms (AV service, DJ, musicians - This allows you to quickly sound out a room and get any frequencies that can be annoying. Tried the other two cheaper alternatives and they didn't come close to this device unfortunately. So you need to spend the money to get an effective device. The AFS2 answers the need. Give it a whirl!

Never going back

By Sweetwater Customer

I run a couple of small stages in weird rooms with sub optimal acoustics. I have always had a hard time getting enough vocals in the monitors for female leads in front of drums. Never been able to get enough gain before feedback. Even after ringing the monitors, running very obscene EQs, still not enough.
These units give me 10+ db in gain per mic with no feedback issues, and I don't have to compromise on EQ as much anymore. I can't recommend them enough.

Still Optimizing Use of Equipment - Exceptional Sales and Customer Relations Service

By Ashraf B. from Washington, D.C.
Music Background: Vocalist

While I am still getting familiar with the suppressor to optimize its performance, this review goes to credit Sam Cohee with an exceptional sales and customer relations service.

Over the past few months, Sam has worked with me on several large and small equipment purchases. He has provided personalized service to address my specific needs for a live band sound system. Sam has shown great care at meeting my budgetary constraints while giving honest advice on what quality equipment best meets my technical needs, with a relaxed, pressure-free sales approach.

Great for Churches and Schools.

By Tim B. from Portland Oregon
Music Background: Many yrs of sax playing & audio engineering.

These work well in churches for any of the mixes especially with poor acoustic environments. I've also installed these in school auditoriums. You'll see many more smiles from parents in school plays, concerts, choir performances & congregations at churches. I use the go-rack with my sax wireless setup. Love it! Great for all event monitor mixes.

No More Feed back

It does what is supposed to do

By Daniel B. from Melbourne, FL
Music Background: Studio recording artist, guitar, bass, vocals; 10 years + experience in live performance.

Well, good product. It took me not more than a few tries to get exactly what I wanted. First, read the instructions and determine what you need. Then, let the machine do its thing. What I like the best is that the AFS2 "remembers" what it did the last time and when you turn it on it automatically goes to your last settings. No need to program it every time.
I placed my AFS2 right after the mixer (option 4) and it works. As suggested, if your mixer allows I do believe that it is better to isolate your sources of feedback and run them only through the AFS2. My mixer did not, but it still does the job. Anyway, our church used to have lots of feedback issues. Not anymore. I did not give it 5 stars because when I read the instructions for the first time I found myself confused. I had to read the instructions several times to make sure I understand what is required to "ring the system," how, etc. Every venue is different, so take time to make sure you use the AFS2 in a way that is right for you. The best part, if you have any questions call the company (DBX by Harman)and they will answer ALL your questions.

AFS2 - a lifesaver!

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Semi pro musician/sound

Each year, my company puts on an employee event. The IT department insists on using a lapel (omnidirectional) mic for the owner (wireless) since they remove it from another room, it has super high gain set up for the more permanent setting. In the event setting, I have battled endless feedback as the owner loves to walk around, in front of the speakers. It has always been a stressful event for me, continuously chasing the feedback. In steps the DBX FS2 to save the day.Guess what? NO feedback at all!!!! He waked the entire room, stood about 5 feet away, in front of a speaker. Nothing. It ended up taking out 19 offending frequencies. Nothing but praise for this unit and the entire presentation was flawless. Absolutely a life saver in this case. I"m less stressed now that we have no feedback. I"m stuck with their beloved mic, but now I can work with it much easier. Fantastic product!

dbx AFS2

By Dr. C. from Iowa

Ummmmm.....This is a great product.
Feedback destroyers have earned a bad reputation for thinning out the sound, killing the vibe, being glitchy and unreliable.

This unit will bury those concerns.
As live music has never paid enough for bands to go out consistently with proper support, the soundman has become an endangered species. I hate to say this, but this unit will do half of his work flawlessly!
It will "fit' you into the room without resonances and feedback and make your speakers sound better because they don't reproduce the frequencies that add to the clutter, and still sound full and clean!
If your drummer can read English, even he can set it up!
And since we don't have a soundman for my girlfriend to flirt with, maybe I can teach her how to set levels.....
