Lots of guitarists are going to stereo rigs, wet/dry rigs (where one amp/speaker receives the dry, uneffected guitar signal while the other amp/speaker receives an effects only feed from a delay, chorus, reverb, or other effect), or wet/dry/wet rigs (where one amp/speaker receives the dry, uneffected guitar signal while two additional amps/speakers receive stereo effects from a delay, chorus, reverb, or other effect).
The problem with these sorts of rigs is that you need an additional amplifier and speaker or even two amplifiers and speakers besides your main amp in order to make it all work. In most cases, what you really need is just a speaker cabinet and some sort of power amp to drive it; the main amp provides all the preamping and sound shaping necessary.
For those types of situations, here’s the perfect solution: the Tech 21 Power Engine 60! This powered 1×12″ speaker cabinet will work with any guitar preamp, but it’s even more ideal as the “wet” speaker/amp in a wet/dry rig or use two of them for a wet/dry/wet rig. The Power Engine 60 provides 60 watts of power, a 1×12″ Celestion Seventy 80 speaker, and there’s even an onboard 3-band active EQ to help shape the tone. Best of all, the Power Engine 60 clocks in at just 33 pounds, making it easily portable.
