Tone multi-tool

I'm always trying to get different sounds to come through and this pedal gets you most of the way.

This pedal changed the way I view the instrument.

By Kyle O. from Summerville, GA
Music Background: Fame retardant

This was my first pedal, and boy was it everything I wanted and more.
I was a bass purist for 16 years and saw no need for pedals for bass until I did some research, and come to find out, this pedal was the secret sauce to almost every bass tone I admired.
It's way more than crunch or distortion. It has this middle ground between just plain EQ and distortion/crunchiness that can really only be described as advertised: a "bass driver".
My 5 string has active EQ but passive pickups, so this V2 model always has the extra low-end "lift" switch on, even when dry to even out the tone.
It's an experience you won't forget to play with this pedal. One will quickly see why it's the holy grail of bass tone. If you're new to pedals for bass, this is a perfect jumping off point. May even be the last pedal you may need. Me, even though I'm 100% satisfied with this pedal, it wasn't my last because it has ignited in me the curse of the tone chaser.

New trendy tech will come and go, but never dismiss the classics.

By Kyle O. from Myrtle Beach, SC
Music Background: Producer & Artist who just wants to be Tim Cummerford but too nutty to work in a band.

Bought it 4 years ago and was the first bass pedal I ever purchased. It's safe to say that even after playing many more since (purchasing few) this will always have to be on my board. Even if it was just a preamp I'd be happy but holy crap…the snarl of the drive blended with my clean Hartke stack…ON MY MOMMA the first time I heard that it changed my life. Very few moments you get to experience your instrument with a completely fresh take.

If you've never played with bass pedals, get this. If you're into pedals and don't have this, what are you doing? The Darkglass B7K is bulkier and for crunch, you're just ans well off with the B1K.

Holy Cow

By Andrew B. from Bentonville, AR
Music Background: fanatical hobyist.

I looked at the Tone Hammer and many others, but in reviews and side by side comparisons, this stood out to me. When I got mine and tried it out it was even better than I hoped, it brings the bass alive, sounds like a driven cabinet with all the flexibility to control my tone. I especially love the fact that you can power it using phantom power. I melt everytime I hear the bass tones that I am driving now. Awesome product.

You can’t beat a classic…unless you’re Tech 21 apparently.

By Kyle O. from Myrtle Beach, SC

I never had a chance to try the V1 Bass Driver DI but all the oldheads I've spoken to agree that this passes and exceeds expectations with the additional functionalities. I still am discovering new ways to use it. Just found out the other day that it can run on phantom power which is pretty neat.

Instant Gratification and Sonic Upgrade

By Michael from White Plains, NY

I've been using amp modelers as I continue my five transition to bass. My problem was plugging into different PAs and house amps created drastically different sounds w modelers and accessing tweaks behind tiny menus isn't always timely. I've already played the Sansamp in a few environments and it's such a pleasure to operate. The tone comes together with little stress and I have access to a wide range of sounds. The controls are very musical, especially presence. Adding a quality compressor is all I needed to significantly improve my bass tone and amplify the fun factor. I've only done some test recordings but already see a new range of tonal possibilities - with ease. Avoid modeler anxiety, go analog! Love the Sansamp, instant classic for me.

Overpriced

By Jay from Florida

Its crazy, I bought my Sansamp back when it was only $ BRAND NEW! Best DI on the market imo, when it comes to playing my bass I Never leave home without it! Every album I've performed on I use 2 tracks together for my tone, 1 for the Sansamp & the other for the mic'd amp. And it's mandatory for front of the house DI

Great gear, great service!

By DONALD B. from NEWPORT NEWS, VA
Music Background: Worship teama bass player. Catch me at libertylive.church

Finally grabbed one of these after playing through the same pedal for the past couple years at two of our church campuses. I normally play either an active 5-string Sadowsky Metroline (German built) or a custom TFP 5-string by Dave Thompson (Nordstrand pickups/pre-amp). Our soundboard guys really like the SansAmp to dial in the bass through the house systems. Figured it was time to get one of my own and practice with it.

The other big reason for the rating is a shoutout to Brenton Evans. He's been my go-to guy at Sweetwater as long as I can recall. Very knowledgeable on equipment and helpful in hunting down the occasional deal. As I watch G/C and S/A go out of business, and continue to be concerned about the quality of gear sold at Amazon, the high level of customer care and great prices at Sweetwater keep me coming back.

SansAmp Review

Exactly what I've been looking for

By Brendan from Eagleville, PA

There is a reason why this DI has been an industry standard for so many years. It is incredibly versatile, and the tones are all usable. I picked this up along with a Darkglass b7k Ultra to try them both out, and to my ears, the Sansamp won by a landslide. The Darkglass has one, really spectacular sound - the sound I associate with modern metal players like Nolly Getgood from Periphery. But I couldn't get a natural clean tone out of it that I really liked. With the Sansamp, you can get a nice clean sound, or a tube overdriven sound. I also appreciate the brightness you can get out of it. I play out of an Orange Terror Bass, which I love, but sometimes, I wish there was a little extra clarity or sparkle to my sound. The Sansamp compliments the Terror Bass perfectly in that regard. And this goes without saying, but the customer service at Sweetwater was top notch with this order, as always. I definitely recommend picking one of these up!

Excellent active DI for bass guitar

By Brad from Gap, PA
Music Background: Musician, Recording/Live Sound Engineer for 20 years

I was a little skeptical at first, since I had just purchased a new bass guitar. I loved the sound of my bass and couldn't imagine it being improved by something like this. But after dialing in my settings on the SansAmp, I was hooked. I love the way it brings out the brightness/grittiness, while allow an extra bass boost or overdriven sound. Lots of flexibility here! And since I use this most often with a sound system or recording interface, I can use phantom power rather than putting a battery in it.

This is a great unit and worth the price if you want to improve the quality of your sound.

Should be part of every bassist's arsenal

By Robert T. from ALLENDALE, MI
Music Background: Bassist for 30+ years

Everything you've heard or read about the SansAmp is true. It's a simple device that does 1,000 different things, most importantly it replaces your amplifier in a great number of settings. And not just "your" amplifier, but many other amplifiers as well thanks to the tone shaping options.

Look, amplifiers are awesome and fun. But (1) they eat up a lot of space, and if you tend to play in tight places like I do, even the smallest amp can be too much. And (2) these days, modern venues don't really use amps on stage (or even want them on stage), they instead have a house system or PA that you run through and then use a monitor just to hear what's happening. So the SansAmp is really all you need for a great number of gigs, plus it's small and fits right on your pedalboard.

Just buy it! It's an industry standard for a reason.

SANSAMP STORY

By Josh M. from Alabama
Music Background: Professional bassist.

We ( TRUSTcompany ) played a radio show with POD back in 2002.... I walked past the bass tech for them and was watching him play this amazing EDEN rig... well it sounded insane and I Mentioned it to the tech how massive it sounded. He looks at me and says... " guess what... all that sound.. is in this one pedal" ... he clicks it off and the rig literally sounded like total crap... farty and gross, no joke he turned it back on and it sounded soo smooth and warm. I bought it the very next day and my life changed. best bass pedal on the planet.

Makes passive active

By P-bass p. from Florida

Got a 1992-94 MIM P-bass with Fender USA pickups and a Hipshot A-style bridge; very nice setup. Started playing through this box and I've been impressed so far. First stomp box, so, rather a novice. I followed the included guide's setting for various styles to experiment a bit and the Presence setting is pretty impressive. I went with Bass Driver DI pedal to avoid artist signature boxes as much as I like the Geddy tone.

I gave it four stars as I don't have a lot of experience with stomp boxes. I'll certainly want to try out others.

SansAmp Bass Drive DI

By John

I purchased the SansAmp Bass Drive DI to take the place of my older amp head which wasn't giving me what I needed since I was going directly to the house PA, to my surprise it was exactly what I was looking for! It also had some extras that fit perfectly with how I wanted to run my rig. I was able to go straight through the house plus use my amp and cab on stage if I wanted to, and with Phantom Power I didn't need a AC power source for it to work. Quite a punch for such a small package! Excellent value at a great price!

Dial in… Anything!

By Bill
Music Background: Experienced bass player

You want Ampeg, dial it in. You want Fender, dial it in. You want Hartke, dial it in. Any tone you want just dial it in! It's not a sampler, it is a tone machine. It's easy to use and it can be used with or without your current rig. I love this thing. Be careful, it's got a lot of kick!

Total game changer

By Augie M. from East Tennessee
Music Background: Rockin bass grooves since the 70's

I play Fender bass guitars with EMG and Seymour Duncan pick-ups, top of the line amps, pedalboard that includes a Keeley Bass Compressor and I thought my sound and tone are terrific. The SansAmp BDDI raised the bar. I only wish I hadn't of wanted so long to get one but I'm sure glad I finally did.

A true masterpiece!!

By Javy B.
Music Background: Music producer, Arranger, Composer, MD, professional touring/session bassist.

Over decades it has been always a critical thing to have a tool that delivers ether in the studio or on the road, well this amazing pedal has done that. The tone is simply ridiculous, and the build of it second to none. After several pedalboards build, when I was in conversations with some serious rig builders in Nashville for my next touring/studio bass rig the ask me what do you want on it, I said the SansAmp, it's a must. My bass pedalboard would have never be complete without it. If you play bass and need some serious tone, look no further,. This is it!

Amazing!

By Billy C. from Rockledge, FL
Music Background: Retired Semi Pro, 50+ years on Bass/Vocals

I made a decision to go direct and let the PA do the heavy lifting. So No Bass Amp! I've been using IEMs and an Eden WTDI for the past few years, but wanted something that could emulate Tube Amps. The Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI V2 does exactly that. I wasn't looking for distortion, just a Warm Smooth Tone. I use a Sennheiser wireless into the Tech 21 and XLR out to the PA. It all fits in a cloth Gator Rack. I get compliments from other Bass players who can't believe I'm not using an amp! I should have bought this Year's ago!

Better Than Expected

By Paul from NY
Music Background: Bass, 45+ years.

I've been playing for 45+ years, have had too many pedals to count. This may be the BEST pedal I've ever had. The build quality, tone(s) are great. I should have bought this many. many years ago. I think it works better on passive basses, P-Bass, J-Bass etc, than active. I now feel like all I need is this, a tuner, and I'm done. Shout out to Dan @ Sweetwater, he always ships items to me as fast as possible and it's a great resource.

It does everything

By Andrew B. from Austin, TX
Music Background: 20-year intermediate player

You can craft up a whole lot of different tones with this thing. I found what works best for church service, but switching dials in practice is a lot of fun. I feel like it expands the styles of music played as you explore tones. The best part is this pedal immediately makes you sound better and that confidence is infectious as you go through different bass lines.

It's Okay...

By DB from CRESSKILL, NJ
Music Background: 25 years - Rockin the Bass Guitar

I wasn't as happy as the others here and felt I should point out why so you can decide for yourself. First let me say to those that never own a Tech21 pedal, heres your chance to get a taste of both Bass Driver & VT versions in a single multi pedal with effects, you'll like it. For those who have either Sansamp, the Bass Fly Rig only offers a stripped down version of both the Bass Driver & VT pedal. Its not terrible, but its not the same either. The character button let's you choose between the Bass and VT Sansamp. You can setup 2 separate tones under each and use the channel foot switch to change from a Clean to Overdrive sound. Note you can't switch between the two Sansamps directly on the fly. That would have been ideal. Maybe on the next version. The Octafilter - Yikes, I'm not sure what happened here, but as others said they came up short on this one.
The Fuzz - usable but not great. The Octafilter and Fuzz together with the Compressor was my only chance of getting a usable sound. Tuner - usable...Chorus - usable and surprisingly good for a single knob chorus. Compressor - usable, it's subtle but does it's job and you can use it as a volume boost as well. I get a much better sound and tone out of my Bass Driver pedal than I could with the Bass FlyRig and I didnt like the VT version the Bright switch sucked out more bottom end compared to the VT pedal. The Sansamp Bass Driver, Compressor, Chorus and Tuner is all I could use.
Buts that's me.

Tried and true. Can’t go wrong with this one.

By Chris C. from APEX, NC
Music Background: Worship Bassist for 9 years.

I've had this preamp about a month now. I am completely happy with my decision to get this one. I was vacillating between this, the Darkglass B7K, the GK Plex and the MXR M81. I read the countless positive reviews and pulled on this guy.

I really wanted to be able to shape my tone consistently between Worship service and home practice. I'm so happy I can do that and more. I have plenty of signal to send to the house now. The sound guys were pleased and didn't have to do anything but turn me down a bit.

Don't hesitate to grab one of these!

Great DI

By Justin S.
Music Background: Playing bass for about 25 years

This is one of the best bass dis. Where it really shines is the Blend, Presence and Drive. The Blend adds nice warmth and reduces unwanted noise. The Presence is like a treble eq but without all the hiss and noise. The Drive is probably the most important of the three if you put it at 12 o'clock you get a nice drive that's not harsh. Around 2 or 3 o'clock you're in Geddy Lee territory. Full drive your pretty much Cliff Burton. I've tried many dis and this is for me the best.

Correct product selection & quality sound

By Sweetwater Customer from Aiken SC

Can't say enough about my Sales Engineer Todd! He listens to me describing the issues I'm trying to solve & always recommends the right solution. This time I needed more control of low end in my IEMs; Todd recommended adding the SansAmp preamp on my Pedaltrain and it provided exactly what I needed. Plus, as a bonus the SanAmp accommodates my 5-string bass with ability to extend Hz into lower register, and since it's switchable my 1966 Fender Precision isn't left out of the party.

The Standard Bass DI

By Vincent S. from ORLANDO, FL

I have had my SansAmp for about a month now and it has been on my chain ever since. The most impressive part has been the EQ; my bass doesn't sound very pleasant on the higher end but the treble and presence controls on the SansAmp do an excellent job getting it exactly where I want it. The blend and drive can add some character to your tone but it's really easy to overdo it. I don't find myself fiddling with it very often because it is so easy to dial in a great tone. The XLR output with Phantom Power support is one of my favorite features. I am able to take advantage of my audio interface's XLR input which can provide Phantom Power to pedal which means I don't need to buy any batteries to use it. Determining if this was the right pedal for me was difficult.  Tech 21 provides the least information about this model in the user manual compared to their other models (like the Geddy Lee or SVT variants) and they have several products that do very similar things. My decision ultimately came down to what would provide the most flexibility. Overall, I'm very pleased with it and it's an excellent versatile product.

Not just for bass.

By Chauncey from Arizona
Music Background: 50 plus years as a weekend warrior, mainly sax and keys but occasionally bass and more recently on guitar. Currently working as a one man band with my own backing tracks.

I got one of these several years ago for recording and gigging on my bass. Recently I have been looking for a boost/overdrive for my Strat going into my Tone Master Deluxe Reverb. I thought it sounded great before, but kicking in the Bass Driver brings an even bigger, warmer sound on the Fat Tube setting. Definitely going to be a permanent addition to my set up.

First Bass DI

By Todd from Ohio
Music Background: jazz, rock, worship

Being an old school bass player (34 years), I have always used an amp on stage. The musicians at our new church however, do not use any backline gear, but either use a DI, or plug directly into the board. I watched a bunch of reviews, and chose the SansAmp Bass Driver DI. Wow am I glad I did! It sounds great! I am beyond pleased with my purchase! I can dial in everything from a mellow Fender Bassman or an overdrive SVT.

The Great Little DI That Could

By El-Monte from Earth

Gather round children for the story of the little DI that could and did. It can fit easily into a gig bag. It can deliver great tone in a simple to use interface. It can silence annoying idiots, one particular singer, who think the bass amp is too loud, but then they realize they can just turn down their own monitor mix instead of looking like idiots and complaining about a non-existent bass amp. It can deliver good clean fun.

Great product at a great price. You should get one....maybe four.

The right tool for the job!!

By Joseph R. from Crawfordville, FL
Music Background: Gigging & Studio Musician

This might be on the more expensive side for effects at first glance but I assure you that the tones that you get out of this little box makes it worth every penny. I recorded some tracks with my old bass player that had one of these and was just blown away by the tones and versatility that came from this one pedal. From metal to blues and even to reggae this has something for every bass player. This is one of the few pedals that I've found that does bass distortion correctly, not too much but not too light but just right.

I can't recommend this enough, doesn't matter if your a gigging musician or just recording in a studio. To me this is a must have for any bass player and will help you find that perfect bass tone you're looking for!!

BEAST!!

By Steve B. from Conyers, GA
Music Background: 20 years bass guitarist in different churches

A friend of mine, also a bassist, let me try his bass driver when we split the bass duties for something big our church was doing. My bass sounded a LOT better going through the driver. After the service, I showed the bass driver to one of my sons and told him, "That thing's a BEAST!" I decided I wanted my own beast. I'm still getting used to it, but it boosts the sound in the amp so much that I don't even need what I used to get from the main sound system. Now I can turn up other things in my ear buds.

Yeah this thing clunks

By Joshua D. from Kannapolis, NC

Really happy with this especially considering the price. My bass amp died on me a few months ago and I've been needing something for DI mostly so I got this because I don't want to spend much money mainly cuz I only really play bass for recordings so I don't need an elaborate set up. Even with my amp I was lacking that really clunky high end. With the presence and treble almost all the way up, blend and gain both between 11 and 10 o clock it really gets the sound I'm looking for. It's a little noisy with the presence dimed but it's manageable all though I haven't tried it with a OD pedal yet. First impression is great and can't wait to see what it does for my recordings.

Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI V2

By Sweetwater Customer

I was very surprised at the complete tone control and purity of sound. I play mainly blues, alternative country and jam band styles. My playing style is very clean and "natural".
I was looking for a DI to add to my gear mainly for showing up to jams. I had looked at several and decided on the SansAmp for the mid-range shift and what the youtube vids persented from the "Drive" control.
First the balance of the output is very smooth. The signal almost reacts like there is a compressor without removing the natural nuances. The pedal is very responsive and very subtle changes can make huge tonal shape changes. I found the "sample settings" in their manual to be a good starting place understand how the DI functions. For my style I ended up with a shape that was nowhere near any of their settings.
In my first rehearsal "test drive" I found the tone to cut through the mix even better than expected. I use Markbass gear and have always felt the rig was perfect. I used the XLR output and the phantom power from the amp. The overall dynamics and tonal presence was surprising. The lower register was very defined and "moving", mids were very clear without sounding "honky" and using the Presence I could get the brights out there with out a brittle feeling.
The DI will be used as a standard piece of MY sound set up as all my basses sound better through it. For you old school folks like running all your stereo gear though the output on your reel to reel before going to the amp!

Direct box dilemma.

By Joe L. from Buckeye, AZ

I started playing bass with my Church"s Worship Group, and was using one of their PRO DI PASSIVE DIRECT BOXES to run to the on-stage snake to the mixing console. We use in-ear monitors on stage, with no amps, and while the direct box worked, I realized that the signal, tone, and gain were seriously lacking the quality that I was looking for. So our sound man suggested that I call Sweetwater to explain my concerns to them, and that they would have the solution that would work for what I needed. I called and spoke to Sweetwater Sales Engineer James Masterson, and he recommended the Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI (v2). Based on his recommendations, I also decided to purchase the optional 9 volt external power supply, in lieu of using a 9 volt battery to power the unit. I received my gear, and used it for the first time about a week ago. I set everything up according to the instructions in the booklet that came with the DI Box, when using it with a mixer only. I adjusted all of the controls for the "Fat Tube" sound in the Sample Settings section of the booklet. The sound of my bass in my ears and through the house speakers was incredible! The gain I was looking for was there, and the rich, clean, tone quality was also exactly what I wanted. I did dial in a little more PRESENCE than what showed in the Sample Settings, however, and I look forward to experimenting with some of the other settings listed in the booklet, as well as creating some of my own. If any bass players are experiencing the problems that I experienced, I highly recommend this Bass Driver as the solution to your problems.

#2 best pedal after ART pre-amp

By John from NYC
Music Background: Indie Rock Gigs in the East Village

I have the V1 which is great for adding drive to bass or guitar. The V1 has limited for tone shaping, so I would get the V2 instead of a used V1 if you want to use this to shape your bass tone. I like keeping all the knobs about half way, but every setting sounds good on the V1. I slave mine to an ART tube preamp, and get a bit of drive from each. I have bass amps, multi-effects and bass amp emulators, but the best sound is SansAmp>ART TUBE>house & bass amp monitor. I use both a tiny new AMPEG and tiny new Hartke combos for kickback monitors. Don't underestimate the value of reigning in your blend, because direct signals also sound great through a tube and mix really well with the SansAmp drive. You could mix in your favorite distortion pedal, but I'd keep that distortion low, so you can still hear the drive from the SansAmp and ART Tube. That gives you a mix of 3 drive contours, not counting the amps and soundboard. It results in a unique, complex and awesome drive. It also helps to shape your tone with the bass tone almost wide open, so you can then vary the tone brighter or darker with your on-board bass tone knob. The V2 will make it easier to do that. This unit is way better than any of my amp simulators, although the V1 still can't truly get the SVT growl. I also love it with my Les Paul Custom to add light drive. I sold my vintage Gibson and Fender Basses, because my new Ibanez bass and Epiphone LP Custom guitar sound amazing through this set-up. So I would definitely say great vintage tone has more to do with pedals like this than the guitars and basses that are coming really close to the originals. This is an option that I just don't know how to beat, except with an SVT all tube head.

Must have for beginning musicians

By TT

I play upright bass and my teacher told me to buy an electric so I could play it for pep band so I went to cascio and bought the cheapest cool looking guitar I could find. This year I joined a worship band and play my bass weekly and realized what a bad overal tone my bass had. My band leader told me about sans amps bc I had been using the Church"s direct box and so I got it to try and help my tone and the way it cuts through the mix. I love this sans amp it does everything I need from eq-ing to adding some drive and presence. If your a beginning bass or guitar player a sans amp is a very very good investment especially if your going directly into a sound system with a sub par guitar. I highly recommend!!!

Super Helpful!

By Matt from New York
Music Background: Church Tech Director

We've got quite a few bass player who come through our venue with passive basses and we've really struggled to get the tone we want out of that gear. We were really pushing the preamps and EQs in our mixer to their max to get the kind of tone we want. Enter a spur-of-the-moment Sans Amp purchase and all of that is an issue of the past.

The EQ on this unit is SUPER powerful, and the frequencies affected are really helpful. The drive's a pleasant amount of grind - it won't get you into full-on dirty bass, but it does put a helpful edge on the sound.

Best part about it is that it will run off Phantom power. No more scrambling for a 9v or running tiny little DC adapters across the stage.

Best Component Of My Pedal Rig

By WS

This is my second Sans Amp Bass Driver. I had the generation that preceded this one and was very pleased with it. However, for some reason, when I added my Shure GLXD16 wireless to my rig, my sound guy started detecting a buzz that wasn't previously there. Did some troubleshooting and determined the buzz was coming from the SansAmp. I immediately ordered this newer generation from Sweetwater. My engineer, Shelby, jumped on it and got it to me within the week before my rehearsal. Not only did this new driver kill the buzz, the tone I got from this bad boy blew me away. Don't get me wrong. I already was very happy with my tone. This added extra warmth and punch I didn't realize with the previous model. Whatever they did to this new generation is remarkable improvement to what was already a great piece of gear. This purchase reaffirmed two things for me - (1) This SansAmp Bass Driver is an excellent choice and (2) Sweetwater (and my engineer, Shelby Strunk) are by far, hands down the best gear support a working musician can have!! The customer service, customer care, follow-up; the overall relationship is second to none!

Always a great tone shaping tool

By Jim from Santa Rosa

Have used the older model for many years and wanted to try the new version with the added mid and bass functions. Nice to have the extra options but not that different from the older model, but still my favorite tone shaping pedal for all my basses.

Great Pedal

By Joe from Adel
Music Background: Bass

As a recommendation from my rep, Sean, I purchased this pedal. It has completely upgraded the sound of my bass. Really happy with this purchase. I still have some tinkering to do but what I have done so far has been great. Pedal seems pretty heavy duty and a lot of options to fine tune your sound.

So far so good

Music Background: Rock Metal

I mainly bought this to grit up the bass when recording but it"s actually really fun and has help me to write a few bass driven songs.

Better than I expected

By Glenn from Vermont
Music Background: World, funk, pop, old style R&B

Looking for a way to add punch and presence, I read up on other reviews of this Sansamp and have not been disappointed! I find my fingerstyle playing is easier and more rewarding, and muted-palm thumbstyle has a bump that just wasn't there before. Gonna be an indispensible part of my setup from now on.

Great sound

By Jimbo from Alabama
Music Background: 45 years bass, also fiddle and acoustic and electric guitar

Not a 5 rating (Blown Away) only because I have the SansAmp GT2 for guitar and therefore I expected the great sound I get with the BassDriver. I use Fender basses including a fretless 78 Precision with round wound strings so with a flat tone setting on any amp the highs are very twangy. With the BassDriver I am able to scoop out the perfect amount of highs and mid highs and still get just the right amount of high end sparkle to hear pitch and still get a great bottom end. Better that any amp. I run from the BassDriver directly into the house as well as into my amp through the effects return bypassing the EQ section.

Must have

By David H. from Lynden, WA
Music Background: Sound engineer, part musician.

This is a must have. I had issues with our church bass buzzing, not enough volume, and not sos great sound. Brought in this little guy and absolutely blown away. Great volume, great tone, and great clean sound with no buzzing or noise introduction. You must have this in your tool kit.

Now I Want The VT Deluxe

By Donny from Ohio
Music Background: hobbiest

I wasn't really expecting much from this. I needed something to use for recording bass tracks. I was using the Line6 HD500X for its DI output, but it was too big for the control booth and I couldn't dial in the sound I was looking. The Bass Driver DI... not only did it blow the doors off of the control room, but I am going to employ this bad boy in my live rig. It really does sound amazing. Now I plan on getting the VT Deluxe.

Great DI box!

By Brian from California
Music Background: Vocalist, bass/keyboard player

I needed a DI box to give my tone something that was missing--this was definitely it!
I didn't want to buy a big bass amp and even the ones I tried really didn't do anything for my tone.

I bought this DI box without having heard it first, taking a chance on the reviews I saw here. I'm really happy I did! I wouldn't play without this now.

Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI V2

By Phillip B. from Ohio

I tried to work with this DI but I could not overcome the muffled sound, no punch. Maybe it will work for you.
I would not recommend this product.

Bad little dude!!!

By SKim

Been playing at churchs for years using an active bass and a passive DI. Bought this guy for a little more character and clarity, it ads just that. Sans amp is now used on all my rigs (outside of church). I recommend this to any bass player who wants a versatile DI box. Can't go wrong with this bad little dude!!!

Leave your amp rig at home

By JVL from Upstate, NY
Music Background: Semi pro, songwriter, worship leader

I have used these for a while and love the new updated version, which works great in any situation. I most recently used the new version with a Ric bass and wow what a combination. I could dig into the bass and get a nice, naturally compressed growl out of this. Ease up and clear as a bell. Truly responds to playing technique like a good tube bass rig. No joke and no exaggeration. I use in ears in a worship context and this is a dream rig. I also use to record and it is just outstanding. Not a bad sound in this box, and the active tone controls cover a lot of ground.

Don't let the fact that this pedal has been out there for many years now. It is a standard and this new version perfects an already fantastic design. Get one now!

Sansamp with MID Controls!!

By Philip B. from Saint Cloud, FL
Music Background: Bass Guitar

Do you ever wish you could just plug in and instantly have an amazing bass tone? If so, the Sansamp BDDI V2 is the way to go.

Its very versatile and can be used for any style of music. The major complaint about the original Sansamp BDDI was that it had no mid controls. This version not only offers variable mids (500hz or 1000khz), but also lows (40hz or 80hz).

Using the blend controls, you can dial in exactly how much amp and cabinet simulation you want. I'm not a big fan of the drive control anywhere past 10 o'clock, but I don't really use it as an overdrive pedal anyway. I just dial it in to get a little bit of grit.

In conclusion, with the Sansamp BDDI V2, you get that consistent, magic, studio bass tone wherever you plug and play.

My Favorite Pedal

By Just a. from "You talk funny where you from?" "California" "I HATE CALIFORNIA!"
Music Background: I play bass...I use a pick too; big whoop wanna fight about it?

The SansAmp V2 is truly a remarkable bass preamp/DI pedal. I have used this for multiple recordings and I always have it while playing live as a preamp going into my GK head. It adds that "studio tone" that just makes any bass sound phenomenal. I have used this through a wide range of basses from an Ibanez SR300 to a Fender American Elite and the results are a truly gorgeous sound that, in my opinion, is difficult to surpass regardless of the bass plugged into it.

If you're looking for that "studio/smooth tone" and are currently bass shopping, try this little box out first and you may be surprised *thumbs up*..............You know what, you should get that new bass you've been eyeballing too, you deserve it!

Never Say Never!

By Dean K. from Mansfield, OH
Music Background: Extensive

I've had a love/hate relationship with various other SansAmp models that I'd purchased in the past, and always ended up selling them. I really "never" planned on owning another one. But...about a year or so ago I bought a SansAmp VT Bass DI and immediately loved it. Recently I needed another preamp for different board/band/venue, so I started trying out some other preamps and pedals. Somewhat reluctantly, I decided to give the new Bass Driver DI (V2) a try. This one blew my mind and has become my main preamp/modeler/EQ/DI. Whatever they (Tech 21) changed in this Version 2 model, has won my heart and provided me with a box I can use live in big venues, little venues, in the studio, etc. Many thanks and kudos to Jon for all his assistance (and patience) in helping me arrive at solutions to meet my needs, not just this time, but many times over the past several years. Sweetwater, you're the greatest!!!
