In 1958, Gibson released the original ES-335 “dot neck” double-cutaway, semi-hollowbody electric. It was an overnight success. So the following year, the company released a slightly upscale version, dubbing it the ES-345. What’s the difference? The ES-345 has pearl split-parallelogram inlays, gold hardware, and special Varitone circuitry along with multi-ply body binding. The ES-345 Reissue comes with a pair of sweet ’57 Classic Humbuckers, two volume controls, two tone controls, and the standard Gibson 3-way switch. The top, back, and sides are all maple/poplar/maple laminates with the same solid maple block running down the center of the guitar to add rigidity and thus eliminate unwanted feedback. The solid mahogany neck has the fast 1960 slim-taper profile with a rosewood fingerboard. The Varitone can be used instead of, or in addition to, the two tone controls. Its circuitry rolls off the high end in a distinctive manner that gives the 345 a wider tonal palette than the 335. Check this one out! We have two colors in stock right now: Tri-Burst and Faded Cherry.
