Q: “I don’t think my DA-P1 is displaying time after I’ve recorded something. Any clues?”
A: Whenever you’re using a new, blank DAT tape for the first time with your Tascam DA-P1 you need to press the REW button (regardless of the current tape position) BEFORE you use the tape. This will allow the tape to be located to a point 100 mm ahead of the end of the leader tape. If you don’t perform this step, or if you record from the middle of the tape for instance, ABS time will not be recorded in the subcode area for later reference, and the ABS display will be left blank. This is true for many DAT recorders.
