Yamaha HS

With iconic white woofers, Yamaha nearfield reference monitors have come a long way since they hit the market in the 1970s. Over the decades, their signature sound and serious accuracy have made them a genuine studio staple. Yamaha designed its HS Series of studio monitors to provide an honest and precise reference without any added bass or treble frequencies that plague other monitors. These speakers provide the ideal sonic platform to build on during the mixing process. Yamaha’s speaker engineering team has leveraged every bit of the company’s expertise and state-of-the-art technology to examine and optimize every single element of the HS Series of monitors. The result? Some of the most trusted studio monitors in the business. Now in its second generation, the HS Series includes a new 6.5-inch model, which helps the series cover an ever-greater variety of recording environments.

Accuracy Above All

When you’re shopping for new studio monitors for music production, accuracy is a major component to consider. Descended from the NS-10M and previous HS Series, Yamaha’s HS Series of studio monitors flaunts a design philosophy that emphasizes sonic purity without coloring or altering the original sound. And unlike other manufacturers that subtly enhance the sound of their monitors to seem more impressive, Yamaha studio monitors are designed to deliver the best possible mix by ensuring you’re hearing a true-to-life sound. All nearfield studio monitors from the HS Series embody the above sonic philosophy and deliver a high-resolution sound with a ruler-flat response.

Newly Developed Transducers

The HS Series introduces newly developed transducers that produce a smooth, consistent response across the entire bandwidth. Yamaha’s team of engineers carefully re-examined and optimized every aspect of these transducers, from the materials used to the design, drastically improving their overall accuracy.

An all-new, highly efficient 1-inch dome tweeter — it considerably expands the usable frequency range up to a whopping 30kHz. Plus, the robust waveguide minimizes unneeded vibrations, enabling the tweeter to deliver smooth, high-resolution sound the entire way.

The HS Series also comes with newly designed, ultra-responsive woofers. Each of the new woofers leverages carefully selected magnets to lower bass distortion and produce a well-defined bottom end at all output levels. All of the components, including the woofer ring and the basket, contribute to the HS Series’ show-stopping bass and clear, accurate mids.

High-performance Amp Unit

Studio monitors from the HS Series come with an amplifier matched to the specific drivers used in each model. Every monitor of the HS Series features a bi-amped design with a separate amplifier for both the woofer and the tweeter. This design element ensures that every driver in every studio monitor from the HS Series consistently delivers high-resolution sound and an unbelievably flat response across the sound spectrum.

Low-resonance Enclosure Design

All studio monitors from the HS Series are housed in low-resonance cabinets designed to increase accuracy and take your sound quality to the next level. Enclosures of the HS Series are built from resilient MDF. The density and damped acoustic qualities make MDF a great material for reference monitors. What’s more, the company’s team of engineers used traditional 3-way mitered joints for the corners. This technique, a nod to Yamaha’s 100-plus years of piano design, dramatically improves durability and eliminates unwanted resonances that influence the monitor’s sound.

Cutting-edge Noise-reduction Technology

A speaker port tremendously influences the overall sound clarity. A vortex at either end of the port can create vibrations within the port and cause additional unwanted noise. And, in true Yamaha fashion, the company’s engineers have adopted advanced noise-reduction technology that controls and reduces said vortex. Yamaha’s in-depth analysis and optimized port technology reduce audible port noise by up to 6dB. Embracing this state-of-the-art technology enables studio monitors of the HS Series to meet the demands of strict professional production environments.

Controls and Connectivity

Your new monitors from Yamaha’s HS Series come with built-in response controls to adapt to the unique sonic qualities of your room’s shape and size. The Room Control switch attenuates the unnatural and exaggerated low end that commonly occurs when speakers are placed too close to the walls. Meanwhile, the High Trim parameter gives you flexible control over the high-frequency response. HS studio monitors have XLR and TRS input jacks that can work with a wide range of balanced and unbalanced sources, including mixers, keyboards, and audio interfaces. The HS8S subwoofer’s High Cut control modifies the sub’s cutoff frequency from 80Hz to 120Hz. The Low Cut switch and controls enable the attenuation of low frequencies for output between 80Hz and 120Hz. Finally, the HS8S subwoofer comes with XLR and TRS inputs alongside XLR outputs and an EXT Sub output.

Flexible Enough for Any Setup

With their additional mounting options, HS-I studio monitors offer the uncompromising HS sound for immersive setups. HS-I monitors are compatible with three optional bracket types: wall, ceiling, and baton. This provides the flexibility you need to integrate Yamaha’s uncompromising monitoring into any environment.
