When I launch Ableton Live, my Push still says “Please start Live to play.”
Consider the following:
- Is your Push connected directly to your computer? Make sure you’re not connected to a USB hub that has other things connected to it. This will cause connection issues.
- Try opening up Live Preferences. In the MIDI/Sync preferences section, open the Control Surfaces drop-down menu and select “None” for Push. After that, re-select Push to restart the Control Scripts that Push requires to run.
-
If you still can’t get your Push to connect and your on a Mac, verify that your computer is recognizing the Push by clicking the Apple logo at the top left corner of your screen and selecting About This Mac. In the window that pops up, click More Info, then System Report. From there, select USB. You should see the Push in the listing. If it is there, open Audio MIDI Setup from Applications > Utilities. Click the Window menu at the top and select Show MIDI Window if it is not already open. Next, click the drop down menu for Configuration and select New configuration. Follow the steps to add Push as a new MIDI device.

-
If you’re running Windows and you still can’t get the Push to connect, open the Control Panel from the Start Menu and select Device Manager. Expand the Sound, Video and Game Controllers section. You should see Ableton Push listed. If it’s there but has a yellow warning symbol, turn off Push, then right click on Ableton Push in the Device Manager and select Uninstall to remove the broken driver. Next, restart your computer, then turn on Push.

- If you’ve tried the above and are still have issues, try using a different USB cable. Make sure all other USB devices are disconnected for troubleshooting purposes. Try a different USB port. Try a different computer.
- If you’ve tried everything and Push still won’t work, contact our Tech Support department for further assistance.
