Roland Installing Drivers in Windows XP

If you are prompted to log in as the Administrator when trying to run setupinf.exe in Windows XP, please follow these steps:

1. Insert the driver CD-ROM for your USB device.

2. Plug in the USB device and watch for the “Add New Hardware Wizard” to appear. If it does not appear, continue on to the next step. If it does appear, skip to step #5.

3. Your computer has either installed the driver properly already, or it has installed a driver place-holder which must be removed before you can install the Edirol/Roland driver from the CD-ROM.

Check the status of installed driver

3a. Click on “Start,” then choose “Settings >” and then “Control Panel” from the list.

3b. If you haven’t already done so, switch to “Classic View” mode by clicking on the link switch to the left side of the “Control Panel” window.

3c. When in “Classic View” mode double-click the “System” icon, then choose the “Hardware” tab and click on the “Device Manager” button.

3d. Double-click on the “Sound, video and game controllers” item in the “Device Manager” and look for an Edirol/Roland driver that fits the product you are trying to install. -E.g… for the UM-1 you might see “Roland UM-1 USB Driver” listed. If you see the driver listed here that means everything is installed fine, so all you must do at this point is configure your music software to use your USB device. You may now ignore the next steps in this walkthrough.

3e. If you do not see a driver by Edirol/Roland, look for a device with a yellow exclamation mark next to it. If you see this, highlight the device and uninstall it so you can then install the Edirol/Roland driver off of the CD-ROM.

(NOTE: If you do not see either a Roland/Edirol driver or a driver with an exclamation point, please contact Roland Product Support for further advice.)

4. Plug in the USB device and watch for the “Add New Hardware Wizard” to appear.

5. Make sure that you mark the bubble labeled “Install the software automatically (Recommended)” and then click “Next.”

6. Your computer will begin to search for the driver it needs. After some time you will see a dialog box called “Hardware Installation” which tells you that the driver “has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP.” Click “Continue Anyway” to ignore this warning, but don’t worry because our USB drivers have been thoroughly tested and won’t damage your computer as this warning implies.

7. Your computer will begin to copy the necessary files. Once it is done click “Finish” and then allow Windows to restart your computer when it prompts you to.

After a reboot your driver will be installed correctly. At this point, you will need to configure your music software to use your USB device. If you are unsure how to do this, please consult the User Guide for your particular music software.

Offer applies only to single-receipt qualifying purchases. Select manufacturers may require that only the manufacturer’s products qualify towards the minimum purchase amount needed to be eligible for promotional financing. Otherwise, an invoice that meets the minimum purchase amount and contains at least one qualifying manufacturer product is eligible for promotional financing. No interest will be charged on promo purchase balance, and equal monthly payments are required on promo purchase until it is paid in full. The payments equal the amount financed divided by the number of months in the promo period, rounded up to the next whole dollar. These payments may be higher than the payments that would be required if this purchase was a non-promo purchase. During the last month(s) of the promo period the required monthly payment may be reduced due to the prior months’ rounding. Regular account terms apply to non-promo purchases. New Accounts as of 07/31/2025: Purchase APR is 34.99%. Penalty APR is 39.99%. Min Interest Charge is $2. Existing cardholders: See your credit card agreement terms. Subject to credit approval.

Offer applies only to single-receipt qualifying purchases. No interest will be charged on the promo balance if you pay it off, in full, within the promo period. If you do not, interest will be charged on the promo balance from the purchase date. The required minimum monthly payments may or may not pay off the promo balance before the end of the promo period, depending on purchase amount, promo length and payment allocation. Regular account terms apply to non-promo purchases and, after promo period ends, to the promo balance. New Accounts as of 07/31/2025: Purchase APR is 34.99%. Penalty APR is 39.99%. The estimated required monthly payment shown which excludes taxes and delivery equals the amount financed divided by the number of months in the promo period, rounded up to the next cent. During the last month(s) of the promo period the required monthly payment may be reduced due to this rounding. These payments apply only with the financing offer shown. If you make these payments by the due date each month, you should pay off this amount financed within the promo period, if it is the only balance you are paying off. If you have other balances on your account, this payment will be added to any other minimum monthly payments.
