How do I Partition my Internal IDE/ATA Hard Drive on my G4 Mac? (OS8.x -OS9.x)

.Back up any Data if needed.Partitioning will ERASE all Data on the Drive!

.If you need to partition your System Drive, you will need to boot off of the Mac INSTALL CD that came with Mac. (Insert CD, then restart and hold down “C” until rebooted) IF you are just partitioning a SEPERATE hard Drive for Audio, you can just Run Drive Setup from the Mac HD. It is found in the Utilities Folder whiich is in the Applications Folder on the Mac HD.Please skip to line #4!!

.Once you are running off of the CD, go into the Utilities Folder .

.Here you will see the “Drive Setup” folder.Open it and launch Drive Setup.

.Drive Setup will scan and find all of your Hard Drives currently connected and powerd on to the computer.(If compatable)

.Select the Drive you wish to Partition , by clicking on its name in the list.(It will be highlighted after you select it)

.Now press the “Initialize” button.

.To set up a partition scheme, click on the “Custom Setup” button.

.Here you can select as many partitions as you like,as well as alter their sizes. You can click into the partitions (represented by the rectangles in bottom left corner) and rescale them at will.

.Once you are done setting up the partitions , click “OK” and then “Initialize”.

.Now the Mac will Initalize the hard drive , and the new Partitions will show up on your Desktop. You can rename them as needed.

.Now you can run the Mac OS install off of the CD, and then restart when done to begin using your new Partition scheme.

.If this is just a SEPERATE Hard Drive for Audio, there is no need to Install the MAc OS!!!!
