How do I manually clean my Adat head? Manual ADAT Head cleaning

1) With power turned off, remove top cover.
2) Hold down channel buttons 1 & 7 on power up. Display should read PROG.
3) Press pitch up button until display reads CAP.
4) Press auto play button. Dot in right hand corner of display will disappear (test is now selected).
5) Locate micro tape sensing switches with middle finger of both hands (switches located under transport cross guide bar on top of tape transport)
6) While holding micro switches press pitch down button. Transport will load into unit. release micro switches.
7) Press stop button. HEAD STACK IS NOW MOVING- BE VARY CAREFUL!!
8) Apply Denatured Alcohol onto lint free cloth.
9) Apply lint free cloth to head stack using light pressure, being careful not to move hand vertically while cloth is touching head stack. (The best way to do this is to hold the cloth in your left hand resting your “pinkie” finger on the frame directly behind the head stack. Use the middle finger to apply the lint free cloth to the headstack- this will minimize any vertical movement which can cause damage to the head windings).
10) After several seconds of applying cloth, remove cloth and verify if there is any black or brown dirt on the cloth. If so, using a clean section of cloth repeat steps 8 – 10 until cloth is clean after applying.
11) With cotton swab and alcohol clean capstan (It should still be turning), moving top to bottom, and then back up again.
12) Press eject. Transport will return to up position.
13) Turn off power.
14) With cotton swab and denatured alcohol clean tape guides and linear head (located to the right of head stack and next to capstan).
15) Replace top.

Also clean linear head (stationary head ) with a q tip. This head prints and reads the Adats proprietary time code and it’s VERY IMPORTANT that it be cleaned.
