My Kurzweil K2000 seems to be dead – upon powering it up, the screen backlight turns on but nothing else happens. Is there anything I can do but send it in for service?
Sometimes just performing a hard reset solves the problem. Any number of settings could cause this phenomenon, such as the display contrast being set to zero or some boot-up glitch.
Here’s how you do a hard-reset on a K2000 that looks dead:
Turn off the K2000, and while powering it back on, hold the 1-2-3 buttons. If the K2000 is able to be revived, a diagnostic screen will appear. Simply press ENTER on the Hard Reset, answer YES a couple times, and that should work.
If you are unable to get into diagnostic mode, it is most likely your K2000 requires service by qualified technicians such as our Sweetwater service department.
Note: you may also want to check your three AA batteries in the back of the unit (rack) or bottom of the keyboard unit to see if they’re low. This could cause the memory to be corrupted.
