How do I install new audio hardware on my Creation Station?

All electronic devices that are connected to a Windows PC by either firewire or USB will require a driver to be installed so that the device can talk to the computer. In the case of audio interfaces and keyboards, they usually require a driver that is made by the manufacture, and can be either found on the included installer disk or downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. It is always preferable to install the driver from the website, as they will most likely be newer and offer broader compatibility than what is included in the box. If the version online is the same version on the CD (for example, both are version 1.4.2), then it’s OK to install from the CD.

Please be aware that it is NOT necessary to download a driver update directly to the computer where the driver will be installed. You can doanload the file to a different computer (even a different operating system!), and then save the file to a removable disk (CD, USB drive, etc.). Simply launch the installer from the newly created CD on you audio computer.

To install your driver, you simply need to launch the installer and follow the on-screen instructions. On driver CD’s, the installer will be some kind of executable file (either a .exe, .msi, or similar file format). From a download, you will either get an executable file, or a zipped (.zip) file. You will need to unzip this file in order to launch the installer. You can usually do this by right-clicking on the zipped file and choosing “Extract all.” Launch the installer from the extracted files. Driver installers are written in such a way that there is no need to change any of the default settings in the installer. Simply follow the directions printed in your manual, and on-screen.
