In the iLok License Manager on Windows, I am getting an error that says the server is unavailable.
This error usually means there is an internet proxy issue that is blocking the iLok License Manager from reaching the server. If you are experiencing this issue, do the following:
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Choose Tools > Internet Options
- Choose the Connections tab and click the LAN settings button.
- Uncheck the box labeled “Use a proxy server for your LAN.”
- Try the iLok License Manager again.
If it still doesn’t work, there is a more advanced troubleshooting procedure to try. It involves downloading a file called PSTools.zip. The procedure is as follows:
- Download PSTools.zip by clicking here.
- Unzip the contents of the PSTools.zip file to C:\Temp
- Open and run Command Prompt as an administrator. For information on how to do this, do an internet search for “how to open command prompt with admin privileges”
- Enter the following line in Command Prompt and press Enter:
- cd \temp
- Next, enter the following line in Command Prompt and press Enter (this will start Internet Explorer):
- psexec -i -s “C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe”
- From Internet Explorer’s menu choose Tools > Internet options.
- Choose the Connections tab and click on the LAN setting button.
- Proceed with one of the scenarios below depending on your current Local Area Network (LAN) Settings:
- If your machine has to connect to a proxy server to have internet access, make sure the proxy server is configured correctly in the proxy configuration panel here. You then close the proxy configuration panel by clicking OK to make the change effective.
- If your machine accesses the internet without a proxy server and the check box named “Use a proxy server for your LAN” is checked, then un-check that box and the other three check boxes in the configuration panel. Click OK.
- If your machine accesses the internet without a proxy server and the check box named “Use a proxy server for your LAN” is not checked, but the text box named “Address:” is not empty, then follow these steps:
- Check the box named “Use a proxy server for your LAN.”
- Remove content in the box named “Address:”
- Close the proxy configuration panel by selecting OK.
- Open the proxy configuration panel again by clicking the LAN settings button.
- Un-check all the check boxes in the configuration panel.
- Close the proxy configuration panel by clicking OK.
