Ever since I installed the Pro Tools M-Powered 7.1 update the control surface section of my ProjectMix I/O stopped working. Why, and what can I do about this?

The Pro Tools 7.1 installation requires you to remove previous versions of the software. When uninstalling Pro Tools 7.0 (or earlier), the preferences containing the settings for control surfaces are removed along with it.

Simply re-enable the Project Mix control surface in Pro Tools M-Powered by reassigning the ProjectMix I/O as a MIDI controller. This is done as follows (also see page 16 in the ProjectMix I/O manual):

1. With the ProjectMix I/O in Pro Tools mode, launch Pro Tools and select Hardware Setup > Peripherals > MIDI Controllers.
2. Under Type, select HUI.
3. Under Receive From, select ProjectMix I/O Control.
4. Under Send To, select ProjectMix I/O Control.
5. Click “OK”

The ProjectMix I/O will now be ready to serve as a control surface for Pro Tools 7.1.
