Can I use my Focusrite Saffire interface on my Windows PC via Thunderbolt?
Yes. Because there are a growing number of PCs with Thunderbolt ports, Focusrite has begun testing their Saffire interfaces on PCs with Thunderbolt ports using the Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter. Per Focusrite, the following Thunderbolt chipsets have been successfully tested:
- Cactus Ridge
- Redwood Ridge
They have plans to test the Falcon Ridge chipset in the near future. Check back here for updates, or check Focusrite’s support article.
Because the Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter is an Apple device, it has not been certified by Microsoft. When you use it for the first time on your PC, you may see the following message appear:
Simply open the drop down menu and choose “Always Connect.”
Next, another message will pop up telling you that the Thunderbolt device may not work properly. Click Yes to dismiss the message.
You should only have to go through this process the first time you use the adapter.
Note: Although the Saffire Pro 14, 24 and 24 DSP have all been seen to work successfully without the power adaptor, Focusrite always recommends that customers use the included 12V power supply when connecting their Saffire via the Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor.
