Using the BRC with Word Clock and the Yamaha O2R.

If a BRC is being used, it will be the ultimate clock source, transmitting clock to the Yamaha via the ADAT Optical cable. Apparently, there is no problem with this. But, for critical timing applications (such as using an outboard converter), you may need to slave the BRC’s clock to its 48 kHz IN jack.

The Yamaha 02R has a Word Clock output, and a clock input, as does the BRC. As of this writing, it appears that the Yamaha should be the clock source of the system, and the BRC/ADAT should be the slave. (The 02R manual suggests the opposite: that the BRC OUT should feed the 02R’s WORD CLOCK IN. This should work, but we’ve had one report of a problem with this.)

1. Run a BNC cable from the 02R’s WORD CLOCK OUT port to the BRC’s 48 kHz IN port.
2. EDIT EXT SYNC on the BRC so that CLOCK SOURCE is set to 48 kHz, and LOCATE REFERENCE is internal.
3. Leave EDIT, and turn on EXT SYNC.
