BRC/ADAT/TSR8 System

More sync issues: “Can two ADATs and a Tascam TSR-8 be controlled by the BRC? Where the BRC is the master controller and all three machines lock to it. I know the ADATs will lock to the BRC without any trouble and I know the TSR-8 has the capability to be operated from an external source. But how do you hook it up?”The BRC has no way to directly control your TSR-8. You may be able to figure out some sort of MMC (MIDI Machine Control) solution, but it will not behave as a remote because it doesn’t understand the TSR-8 language and it doesn’t generate MMC. In order to operate the TSR-8 remotely you need either a TASCAM dedicated remote or a way to get MMC commands to it, which will require additional hardware and software. Another thing you can do is get a SMPTE Time Code synchronizer for the TSR and have the BRC generate SMPTE on the fly while operating the ADATs. That way your TSR will sync to the ADATs. It’s not exactly like controlling it, but it will at least make it functional. There are several other different directions you can go from here and at this point I usually recommend someone speak to one of our Sales Engineers so they can explain the various options in detail based upon other components you may have in your studio.
