Premium 7-1/4" and 8-5/8" Bongos Built to E Family Specs

From father Pete’s contributions to the music of Santana and Chick Corea to daughter Sheila E.’s electrified, Prince-produced pop hits, the First Family of Latin jazz, the Escovedos, have had a major influence on percussionists and musicians industry-wide — including many of us here at Sweetwater. LP’s E-Class bongos honor the E family’s influence on the music world at large with their value-packed premium sound and performance. These bongos’ kiln-dried Siam oak shells speak with authority and musicality, miked up or unplugged. Handpicked rawhide heads give each E-Class bongo the authentic response of a traditional instrument with modern durability and tuning integrity. A welcome addition to the E-Class bongos is their Comfort Curve II rims, which reduce palm stress while still delivering taut, even tension across the skin. A script “E” badge and chrome-plated steel hardware complete the look.

Inspired by the First Family of Latin jazz

LP’s E-Class percussion products represent the sound and contributions of the First Family of Latin jazz, the Escovedos. The E family’s Pete, Juan, Peter Michael, and Sheila E. have shaped genres and influenced decades of players with their passion for and excellency in music. Standard features across LP’s E-Class series include kiln-dried renewable Siam oak (parawood) shells, handpicked rawhide heads, and Comfort Curve II rims, all for a sound and playing experience that will speak to any Latin-music lover and E family devotee.

About LP’s E-Class Bongos

That traditional rawhide sound

Animal skins have been used in percussion instruments since antiquity. LP’s E-Class bongos honor this tradition with their durable, classically voiced rawhide heads. It’s a key ingredient in the E-Class’s authentic tone and satisfying playing experience.

Built from renewable Siam oak

Latin Percussion E-Class bongos are made from plantation-grown wood. By using renewable resources, LP protects the world’s forests. This helps to ensure adequate wood supply to produce instruments for generations to come. The wood is sorted and graded, and only top-quality wood finds its way into LP E-Class percussion products. As a result, these bongos not only look good, but they also have what it takes to stand up to diverse climates and vigorous playing conditions.

Kiln-dried for voice and durability

Using kiln-dried wood allows LP to control its moisture level throughout the manufacturing process. Wood, even after it is harvested, expands and contracts. The wood used to manufacture all LP percussion instruments must have just the right moisture content level to prevent the instrument from cracking and breaking. Latin Percussion instruments are played by the world’s most demanding players in all seasons and climates, in every region of the world, and using kiln-dried wood helps the E-Class bongo set stand up to many different environmental and performance conditions.
