Universal Audio has released version 8.6 software for their UAD platform, including UAD hardware and Apollo interfaces. Three new plug-ins are being announced as part of the update; free 14-day trials of these plug-ins are included with the free v8.6 software update.

Fender ’55 Tweed Deluxe
Endorsed by Fender, the ’55 Tweed Deluxe plug-in is the first amplifier emulation plug-in created in-house by Universal Audio. The product of two years of intense research and development and based on two pristine, completely original “5E3” ’55 Tweed Deluxes, the plug-in not only authentically recreates the tone of the amplifier, but using the Unison technology exclusively found in Apollo interfaces, the feel and response of the amp as well. A choice of three speakers (1955 Jensen P12R, Celestion 25-watt Greenback, and JBL D120F) and any two of five microphones is provided, with control over mic placement (on- and off-axis), highpass filtering on the microphones, and the blend and pan of the two mics.
We were recently treated to a preview of the ’55 Tweed Deluxe plug-in, and we were blown away by how authentic it sounded, responded, and felt! You won’t believe you’re not plugged into a “real” amp.

Chandler Limited Curve Bender Mastering EQ Plug-in
Developed by Softube, the Chandler Limited Curve Bender Mastering EQ plug-in exactly emulates the ultra-boutique, inductor-based Curve Bender. The Curve Bender itself was based on the vintage EMI TG12345 desk from Abbey Road Studios (featured on such hits as Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and The Beatles’ Abbey Road). The Curve Bender hardware takes the legendary sonic of the vintage EMI gear and expands it into a powerful mastering EQ.
Now, that same power and sonic majesty is available in a UAD plug-in, which is officially endorsed by Chandler Limited founder Wade Goeke. The plug-in even goes beyond the hardware to offer mid/side processing and channel linking.

Sonnox Oxford Limiter V2
The Sonnox Limiter v2 is designed to transparently increase the volume, density, and presence of tracks without affecting transients or squashing dynamics. v2 features the latest generation Oxford Limiter inter-sample peak detection (ISP) — a first for the UAD platform. Features of the Sonnox Limiter v2 plug-in include:
- Professional mastering-grade peak limiting with attack, release, and variable soft-knee
- Enhance section to increase perceived loudness without gain pumping effects
- Auto Comp fixes reconstruction errors without losing overall loudness, while conforming to the industry’s true peak measurement standard (ITU-R BS. 1770-4)
- Comprehensive high-quality dither and noise shaping options
